Lamborghini Urus ST-X: a racing SUV
The Lamborghini Urus ST-X was unveiled this weekend with the mission of launching the world’s first SUV competition
Last weekend it was in action at Sant’Agata Bolognese, as Lamborghini presented no fewer than two new releases: the first is that it announced a new hypercar intended for track use, and the second is the one we bring you today.
It is called Lamborghini Urus ST-X and is a version of the powerful SUV from the bull brand, fully prepared for competition, so it is expected to debut at the World Series 2020 to be held at the Misano circuit.
What modifications does the Lamborghini Urus ST-X have?
The Italian firm has worked on the Lamborghini Urus ST-X to turn it into an even more radical car. To this end, a new carbon-fibre bonnet has been fitted with new vents to allow the 4.8-litre twin-turbo V8 engine to breathe more freely when pushed on a circuit.
It is not a road-going preparation like the Lamborghini Urus by Novitec. To make this clear, Lamborghini has painted it in the eye-catching Mantis Green, the war colours of the brand’s competition vehicles. In addition, it features new vinyl graphics on the sides bearing the ST-X lettering, which makes clear which version we are looking at.
At the rear, we find a new fixed carbon-fibre spoiler and new competition-style exhaust outlets, so we have not the slightest doubt that the sound will be completely deafening.
Another element that makes it very clear we are looking at a pure competition version is the anti-roll cage and the two front racing seats. In addition, a fire-extinguishing system has been installed, three essential requirements to comply with FIA regulations on the circuit.
The winners of the World Finals will have to compete on rallycross-style circuits
The Lamborghini Urus ST-X was not born lightly, since it is already entered in a competition. This one is very peculiar: the winners in the four categories of the Lamborghini Super Trophy of the 2020 World Finals will take the wheel of the manufacturer’s most radical SUV to race against some stars of the motoring world who will be invited.
We already have one name, as the pioneer to test the car has been Antonio Cairoli, a true reference in the world of motocross with several world championships to his name. The Italian driver has already had the opportunity to drive the Lamborghini Urus ST-X at the Jerez circuit.
Lamborghini intends these races to be as spectacular as possible, so they will be held on circuits combining paved sections and dirt stretches, in the style of rallycross.
We will be keeping an eye out to watch these so well-prepared giants battle it out on a circuit, but if one thing is clear, it is that it could be a competition that is, to say the least, highly entertaining.
