Mercedes-Benz launches sales of its renewed eSprinter van

The new eSprinter is already available in Germany with significant improvements over the previous generation, and it should not be long before it reaches other European markets as well

Mercedes-Benz’s commercial vehicles division has officially started selling its new eSprinter in Germany. The star brand announced this renewal almost a year ago, and it is now finally reaching the market with two battery packs to choose from, of 56 kWh or 113 kWh.

In Germany, the new eSprinter with the 56 kWh battery pack is available from 59,990 euros before VAT, or 71,388.1 euros including the 19 percent VAT applicable in that country. However, the company says most customers who opt for a van of this type do so through leasing. For these customers, Mercedes-Benz offers the new eSprinter from 690 euros per month over 48 months, with a limit of 20,000 km per year.

Mercedes-Benz has not yet revealed the price, either for outright purchase or leasing, of the eSprinter equipped with the 113 kWh battery pack, which according to the company allows it to cover up to 440 km on a single charge under the WLTP homologation cycle. What it has announced is the future availability, in the more or less near term, of an additional version with an 81 kWh battery pack, which will sit in the range between the two versions currently available.

The changes are on the inside

Although at first glance there are no notable differences compared with the previous generation of this electric van, the new eSprinter uses entirely new technology inside. Mercedes-Benz now offers two powertrains to choose from, one of 100 kW and the other of 150 kW, with torque reaching 400 Nm.

As for the battery packs, they use lithium iron phosphate cells this time. When charging, both available battery packs support a maximum power of 115 kW. The company says this makes it possible to increase charge from 10 to 80 percent in just 28 minutes in the 56 kWh version, and in 42 minutes in the 113 kWh version.

The new eSprinter also has an onboard charger for AC charging that supports a maximum power of 11 kW and allows, according to the manufacturer, a full charge from zero in about 5 and a half hours for the 56 kWh battery pack, or 11 hours for the 113 kWh one.
