Microlino Lite: the electric city car for younger people who don't yet have a driving licence

The Swiss manufacturer is already accepting orders for the new Microlino Lite and, if all goes to plan, the first deliveries will take place in Europe this very summer

Having unveiled a first prototype a year and a half ago, Micro Mobility Systems has now fully committed to attracting a new type of customer – those under 18 who still don’t have a driving licence – with the launch of the Lite version of its urban electric city car, the Microlino. The technical specifications of the Microlino Lite are what make this light quadricycle a special vehicle, since, falling within the L6e category, it can be driven simply with a moped licence in some countries, as is the case in Germany.

Micro Mobility Systems has reduced the weight of the standard Microlino so that this Lite version falls within the L6e category, going from 435 kg to 420 kg. It has also limited the power of its electric motor from 12.5 kW to less than half, 6 kW. Just as has happened with its top speed, which is also lower, dropping from 90 km/h to 45 km/h.

As for the battery pack, it has had to be redesigned to offer a range similar to that of its bigger sibling, bearing in mind that its lower weight and the reduced output of its powertrain will significantly lower its energy consumption per kilometre travelled. The company states that it will offer two battery packs to choose from, of 5.5 or 11 kWh, with which it will be possible to cover up to 100 or 180 km, respectively, on a single charge.

If you have a plug in the garage, you won’t need anything else

Charging will be with alternating current only, with a maximum supported power of 2.2 kW. This means that a standard Schuko plug like the one we all have in our homes will be more than sufficient. According to the manufacturer, reaching 80 per cent charge with the smaller-capacity battery pack will take around two hours, while with the larger-capacity one it will double to four hours.

There are no changes to the dimensions of the Microlino Lite, which keeps the same figures at 2,519 mm long, 1,473 mm wide and 1,501 mm high. The capacity of its boot is, on the other hand, 230 litres. Telling the two models apart at a glance won’t be difficult, however, since Micro Mobility Systems will offer this Lite version in two special paint colours: Venice Blue with exclusive orange details and Berlin Anthracite, which, as can be seen in the images, is a dark green.

The Swiss manufacturer says the Microlino Lite will be a special edition, although it has not specified how many units will go on sale. Its price will be 149 Swiss francs a month – around 156 euros – on a leasing basis. As with the standard Microlino, this Lite version will also be produced at the company’s plant in Turin, Italy.
