Mitsubishi will be present at the Tokyo Motor Show with a prototype SUV called the MI-TECH Concept, featuring an aggressive design and plug-in hybrid drivetrain

As we have been telling you, at the end of this month a new edition of the Tokyo Motor Show will begin, a place to find real rarities and where we will also see interesting proposals from brands that are at home, such as Mitsubishi, which, after presenting the concept Engelberg at the Geneva Motor Show, will present us in Tokyo with an interesting prototype, also an SUV.

As with the Geneva Motor Show, the new Mitsubishi prototype, which they have named MI-TECH Concept, is an SUV, but unlike the Engelberg, it will catch our attention with a completely different aesthetic. It matches the image you can see at the top of these lines and, as you can observe despite the shadows, we are presented with an SUV prototype of great presence and very pronounced, almost oversized lines that will undoubtedly attract every eye.

The front of the Mitsubishi MI-TECH Concept reflects the design language the brand has applied to its latest creations, such as the Outlander, but with a very pronounced nose, while above the front end you can clearly see how the bonnet appears to emerge from the body itself, and on the sides, its great presence is reinforced by the oversized wheel arches. It is on the sides where the MI-TECH proposal becomes most interesting, as we have a prototype of a two-seater convertible SUV, with a rear end also of great dimensions that includes a pair of enormous humps behind each seat.

But beyond the design exercise carried out by Mitsubishi, the MI-TECH Concept serves to showcase the technology the Japanese brand is developing, especially regarding its propulsion system, as it is equipped with a plug-in hybrid electric powertrain of reduced size and weight. This PHEV system is made up of a gas turbine engine that allows the driver to choose between electric or hybrid driving, with performance that, according to the brand, will be characterized by its smoothness and instant response.

The power generated by this system will be transmitted to all four wheels thanks to a system called Quad Motor, which uses four electric motors with dual drift control, two of them located on the front axle and the other pair on the rear axle. With this system, Mitsubishi aims to make the torque distribution fully optimal at all times and in every situation, which will provide comfortable and safe driving both on the road and in the city, but will also allow maximum performance when driving off-road on any surface.

In addition, the Mitsubishi MI-TECH Concept also features several driver assistance systems, such as the Advanced Driver Assistance, which uses a human-machine interface (HMI) that, through optical detection technology, projects information onto the windscreen itself. It also includes the MI-PILOT driver assistance system, which will alert you in case of collision danger and, should a collision occur, can also take control of the steering wheel and brakes.
