Opel has just renewed its range of diesel engines for the Mokka and Insignia in our country. The crossover and the saloon can now be equipped with the new 1.6 CDTI with 136 CV and 2.0 CDTI with 170 CV, respectively. The former is available from a starting price of 22,790 euros and the latter from 33,660 euros, in both cases with taxes included in the calculation.

The Mokka’s powertrain was unveiled at the previous edition of the Paris Motor Show and, as we commented when it was announced, replaces the 1.7 CDTI with 130 CV. The new unit offers 6 CV more of power, 20 Nm more of torque, reduces consumption by 0.8 l/100 km and emits 20 g/km less CO2 than the previous one, which allows it to meet the Euro 6 emissions standard.

This 1.6 CDTI is also about twenty kilograms lighter than the 1.7 CDTI and produces a lower level of noise and vibration, which translates into greater driving comfort. The new engine can be combined with a six-speed manual gearbox or an automatic with the same number of ratios, but only the former can be paired with four-wheel drive.

As my colleague Diego pointed out in the road test of the updated Insignia, Opel planned to replace the 2.0 CDTI with 163 CV, and it has done so with an improved version of its predecessor. It offers 170 CV at 3,750 rpm and 400 Nm of maximum torque between 1,750 and 2,500 rpm, that is, increases of 4% and 14%, respectively, compared with the other engine.

With the six-speed manual gearbox and front-wheel drive, the new 2.0 CDTI allows the Insignia to complete the 0 to 100 km/h sprint in nine seconds (half a second faster) and reach 225 km/h (5 km/h more than before). Consumption and emissions remain identical, as does compliance with the Euro 6 standard. This powertrain can be fitted to all Insignia bodies, as well as the Country Tourer version, the only one that can have all-wheel drive.
