New but with old systems, that's the infotainment of the Mercedes C-Class

The electronic configuration of the Mercedes C-Class does not allow the installation of the infotainment system fitted to the A-Class, but it does share its features

The new Mercedes C-Class has been unveiled at the New York Auto Show and, yes, it is a technological and mechanical marvel. Everything is very much in line with the traditional Mercedes models, but it has one small detail that has not gone unnoticed. We will not find the MBUX, the new infotainment system from Mercedes that we have seen in models such as the new Mercedes A-Class.

The Mercedes-Benz User Experience (MBUX) is the latest infotainment system, which features a floating twin-screen interface. That said, there is not much difference between what one and the other offers. The brand’s answer to this difference between the system found in the Mercedes A-Class and the Mercedes C-Class lies in the electrical architecture used by the latter.

In the case of the smaller model, a new platform was developed, whereas the Mercedes-Benz C-Class uses the architecture of the E-Class, which can also be found in the S-Class. It therefore comes from an earlier structure that, for now, cannot accommodate the next-generation technology found in the revised A-Class.

The layout of the twin screens of the Mercedes C-Class is somewhat more traditional than in the case of the smaller city car, but it consists of a 7 or 10.25-inch central screen, depending on the trim level, and another 12.3-inch screen for the main instrument cluster. In addition, a Head-Up Display can be specified to keep all the necessary information in front of the driver.

Moving from technology to mechanics, the Mercedes AMG C63 S will feature a 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 engine producing 503 CV and a maximum torque of 700 Nm, enabling it to reach 100 km/h in 4 seconds and a top speed of 290 km/h, albeit with an electronic limiter keeping it under control. The Mercedes C-Class will arrive in Europe mid-year before moving on to the US market. And although it does not feature the latest technological detail from Mercedes, it offers all of its features with a familiar interface.
