New Ford Focus ST Sportbreak, a sporty estate with petrol or diesel engines
The variant with the greatest cargo capacity is reaching dealerships under the name Ford Focus ST Sportbreak
Following the presentation of the new Ford Focus ST, the variant with an elongated body and optimised to increase the volume of cargo carried will arrive at the brand’s dealers within a few weeks.
The exact date for the start of sales has not yet been specified, although the information places it sometime this summer. Nor has the price of this new Ford Focus ST Sportbreak been disclosed.
Once again, this is a car that has passed through the sporting and competition department of the American manufacturer, Ford Performance, with the premise of offering, above all, the versatility that the compact model already demonstrates while multiplying its usable space, making it more appealing to individuals or families who appreciate having more room for luggage and belongings behind the rear axle.
Ford Focus ST Sportbreak with petrol and diesel engines
As for the axles, the new Ford Focus ST Wagon or Sportbreak is a front-wheel-drive car in any of its engine options, since for this version Ford offers both petrol and diesel powerplants.
The new Ford Focus ST Sportbreak petrol features the familiar 2.3-litre EcoBoost engine, which produces a brilliant 280 CV and a sensational 420 Nm of torque.
For its part, the diesel version of the new Ford Focus ST Sportbreak fits the 2.0-litre EcoBlue engine, which delivers 190 CV and a torque figure similar to the petrol engine’s, at 400 Nm from just 2,000 rpm.
In both engine options, buyers can choose between a six-speed automatic gearbox or a seven-speed manual.
Fuel consumption differs considerably: the petrol variant is rated at between 7.6 and 7.9 litres per 100 kilometres, while the diesel version comes in at 4.8.
There is still no reference to a version supported by a light hybrid electric system like those already incorporated into the new Ford hybrids, a possibility that cannot be ruled out given that the petrol version almost doubles the maximum amount of CO2 that cars sold from 2021 onwards should not exceed, which is 95 g/km at most, while the petrol version is homologated at 176.
A setup aimed at those who enjoy driving sportily
Among its many merits, this estate version of the Ford Focus ST features adaptive damping suspension, high-performance brakes, a heel-toe function, electronically adjustable steering response, and not to forget the electronic limited-slip differential for the front axle.
