New Hyundai i40: design update and new turbodiesel engine
The new 1.6 turbodiesel engine in 115 and 136 CV versions is one of the most interesting new features of the new Hyundai i40, which also gets a fresh look.
Taking advantage of the necessary engine update to meet new anti-pollution standards, Hyundai gives its mid-size saloon a thorough overhaul, the Hyundai i40. A model that has been on the market since 2011 and underwent its last major renewal in 2015. The aesthetic changes are minor, but the cascading grille the brand uses on its recent launches suits the new i40 well.

The alloy wheels are also new, available in sizes up to 18 inches. Along the way, the equipment of some versions is also updated, with new safety features. Both bodystyles remain on offer: the Hyundai i40 saloon and the Cross Wagon estate.

New 1.6 CRDi engine with two power outputs
But the most interesting new feature is under the bonnet. The petrol option remains the naturally aspirated 1.6 GDI with 135 CV, tuned for consumption and emissions to reach 6.2 l/100 km according to the WLTP conversion based on the NEDC cycle. It is only paired with the 6-speed manual gearbox. It is a shame that the i40 does not receive the fantastic turbo engines that the Hyundai Kona or the i30 do.

What is new is the 1.6 CRDi, which replaces the previous 1.7 CRDi turbodiesel engine, improving performance, consumption and smoothness of operation. Two power variants are offered, with 115 CV and manual gearbox, or with 136 CV and 7DCT dual-clutch gearbox. In both cases, average consumption starts at 4.3 l/100 km.
