Polestar will attend the Geneva Motor Show to present the new Polestar 2, the second model from the Swedish brand, which arrives as its first electric vehicle

Polestar continues on its path of developing electric sports cars, radically eco-friendly vehicles that are meant to become true rivals to illustrious brands in this segment, such as Tesla. To that end, and after presenting last autumn the Polestar 1, a hybrid coupé with an impressive 600 CV of power, the Swedish brand will make its appearance at the Geneva Motor Show to show us its new creation, the Polestar 2.

The Polestar 2 presents itself before us as a five-door compact that uses a fastback bodywork, with a design featuring premium characteristics that one would not expect from a brand that derives from Volvo. Its exterior has clearly defined lines, especially at the front, which conveys a certain aggressiveness, emphasized above all by the design of the lighting group and a 3D-style grille. On the sides, the wheel arches house tyres with exclusive-design alloy wheels, optionally 20 inches in size, behind which lies a braking system signed by Brembo, also optional; while at the rear, somewhat more discreet, it features a U-shaped LED light group that joins along the bottom edge of the boot lid.

Inside we find a sober, very clean design that is by no means overloaded, in which the undisputed star will be the huge 11-inch screen located in the centre console, through which we will obtain various information and also control all of the vehicle’s systems, since there are no physical buttons for this purpose, so we will do so by touch or by voice.

As you can imagine, the Polestar 2 will be a fully technological vehicle, and for this the Swedish brand has relied on Android to incorporate its infotainment system, in addition to offering various integrated Google services such as Google Assistant, the Google Play Store or Google Maps with support for electric vehicles, not to mention the connected services of Polestar or the Phone-as-Key technology. Furthermore, as a curiosity, the Polestar 2 will be able to anticipate the driver, being able to have the cabin prepared for use as well as a quick start sequence.

On the mechanical side, the Polestar 2 will incorporate two electric motors delivering a power output of 408 CV and a torque of 660 Nm sent to all four wheels, which will allow it to accelerate to 100 km/h in less than 5 seconds. It features a 78 kWh battery with 27 modules integrated into the floor itself, something that has been done to contribute to the chassis’s own rigidity, which allows a range of 500 km according to the WLTP test cycle. For the time being, Polestar has not provided charging time figures.

The Polestar 2 will be manufactured in China at the beginning of 2020 and there is not yet a date for its arrival in Spain, whereas it will most certainly arrive in China, the United States, Canada, Belgium, Germany, the Netherlands, Norway, Sweden and the United Kingdom. In these markets the Polestar 2 can be ordered online, with a price for the launch version of 59,000 euros in the German market.
