New Renault Modus and Grand Modus

Renault Modus y Grand Modus

Taking advantage of the fact that the Modus was due for a facelift, it seems Renault decided to give it a new version to see if that might attract a bit more attention from buyers, because success, real success, this car hasn’t had much of.

This new version is called the Grand Modus, which, just like its big brother the Grand Scénic, adds a few centimetres in length to the existing model, though without 7 seats as sometimes happens in these cases. Its length is therefore 4.03 metres, compared with the Modus’s 3.87 metres, which obviously gives it a large load capacity, of up to 410 litres, considerably increasing that of the existing model.

Aesthetically the Modus also undergoes plenty of changes: new headlights with a design that to some extent follows the new Laguna, a new grille in a “U” shape as on the latest Renault models, a body-coloured radiator grille to blend it in with the new models that lack one (such as the Twingo), and a redesigned tailgate and rear lights. The interior features higher-quality materials and great modularity and space, especially in the Grand Modus, thanks among other things to the sliding rear bench.

Finally, there will be two petrol engines: the 1.1i 75 CV and the 1.1i TCE 101 CV; and three diesels: the 1.5 dCi 70 CV, 1.5 dCi 85 CV and the 1.5 dCi 106 CV 6-speed. It will reach the market early next year.

In short, a sensible car if you want modest running costs and the comfort and flexibility suited to families who will make heavy use of it. It is safe and quite reliable, and build quality rarely disappoints on the latest models from the diamond brand; however, design? Best not to think about that.
