Once again, the alleged Ferrari 812 GTO mule has been spotted

A test example of the 812 Superfast, possibly the Ferrari 812 GTO, has been filmed near Ferrari’s facilities in Maranello

Ferrari
We know that Ferrari is very fond of not repeating the nomenclature of its vehicles consecutively, so we must assume that, if anyone was expecting a Ferrari 812 TDF, they should rather hope to recover another 3 magic letters associated with names as illustrious as the 288 or 599, that is, GTO for the hardcore version of the brand’s current V12, namely the Ferrari 812 GTO.

Although there is absolutely no confirmation of the production of a radical, extreme and also more expensive variant of the base model, the flamboyant Ferrari 812 Superfast, an ode to V12 engines, the tests demonstrate it, and the brand of the prancing horse is working with at least one test mule on improvements to its spectacular vehicle.

So much so that, recently, we reported on the tests on the Fiorano Circuit track of a externally modified unit of the 812 that was running on the asphalt of the brand’s track behind a unit that appeared to be standard, despite the colors used on its bodywork.

Be that as it may, the one wearing a brilliant and solemn black finish showed a more abrupt sound on downshifts and seemed more agile when climbing, if anything, in revs during acceleration, given that, aside from the fact that the difference in the end of the tests meant its drivers could have been pushing different paces, the dynamism with which the mule of the presumed Ferrari 812 GTO was running made it far more composed than the first.

In any case, Ferrari is testing something on prototype units of its unrivaled berlinetta and, once again, a video demonstrates and shows that something is brewing in Maranello.

YouTube user Varryx has captured what appears to be the same example that was running at Fiorano. A Ferrari 812 mule near Ferrari’s facilities.

Subtle modifications, or major changes?

Thanks to the proximity of this paparazzo, we can better appreciate details of this vehicle. First of all, on its bodywork, there is no warning sign that it is an electrified vehicle, that is, a hybrid car, as the Ferrari mules with the hybrid V6 engine under development have carried, which could indicate that the V12 engine retains its nature as an exclusively combustion engine.

Likewise, we can now see that, on the front bumper, in addition to what appears to be the license plate holder, a grille narrower than that of the Ferrari 599 GTO is fitted, and on either side of it, one can make out, not without difficulty, that the pontoon-shaped openings disappear, which channel air from its intake against the wind toward the front wheels.

In the side view, at the wheel arches, although the ground clearance from the tire to the bodywork even seems slightly greater than in the standard configuration, the car, while not appearing closer to the ground, does give the impression of riding more composed. As a detail, a rudimentary number ‘5’ stuck to the rear window appears, which could indicate that this is the fifth test unit of this batch.

At the rear, some appendages attached to the frame where the double exhaust tailpipes are located lengthen the height of the rear bumper, while the central diffuser, now common on high-performance sports cars, appears to be the same as the original.

Anywhere else, what is undeniable is that Ferrari is working on modifications or updates for its 812 Superfast, whether as a Ferrari 812 GTO or as a Ferrari 812 Superfast 2021.
