Opel has just announced the launch of a new petrol engine that completes the range of the new Corsa.

This is the 1.4 Turbo variant with 150 CV, which becomes the most powerful alternative of all those available, always behind the all-powerful OPC.

This Corsa 1.4T aims to offer a quick and capable city car to all those potential buyers who value performance but do not want an extremely aggressive look or behaviour, which is unavoidable if the OPC variant is chosen.

With this engine the Corsa completes its range at the top end, creating a very complete offering, with a power spread running from 75 CV to 208 CV. Externally there is no aesthetic change, except for the option of fitting the “Turbo Plus Package” kit, which adds front and rear spoilers and other sporty styling extras, making it a discreet alternative. That discretion carries over into the cabin, where we did not notice any difference at any point.

It is when you start the car and press the accelerator that you begin to realise you are not dealing with a “basic” Corsa with the typical “little” engine of a city car. This 1.4 Turbo version joins the already known 100 CV one, which we tested at the time of the national presentation of the new generation of the German car.

Thanks to various revisions to the electronic management, as well as the incorporation of reinforced mechanical systems, it has been possible to achieve such a power figure. It is, specifically, the same powerplant found in the Adam S. It delivers 150 CV and 220 Nm, which, combined with a 6-speed manual gearbox, is enough to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 8.9 seconds, reaching a top speed of 207 km/h. Consumption is quite frugal, with a homologated combined figure of 5.9 litres per 100 km, equivalent to 136 g/CO2 per kilometre.
