Opel Grandland, the electric bet from the brand arriving in 2024

Opel presents the new generation of the Grandland as an electric model, which may be very similar to the Peugeot e-3008 and will be ready in the year 2024.

The Opel Grandland is entering the final stretch of the configuration we know. In 2024 the new generation of this German crossover will arrive. It will also be the moment when it drops its combustion engines and the model begins a new chapter. The new configuration of the Opel Grandland will be based on Stellantis’s STLA Medium platform, designed for electric models.

Currently, the Opel Grandland is being built at Stellantis’s Eisenach plant. The generation on the market offers diesel and petrol engines, but it also has a plug-in hybrid engine, so electrification is not very unfamiliar to the model’s users.

The current generation of the Opel Grandland reached the market in 2017 and is based on the EMP2 platform of the PSA Group. It measures 4.48 metres in length, which places it in the mid-size SUV category. The new generation will keep these proportions and continue to offer the characteristics typical of this type of vehicle.

There is no data on what this new generation arriving in 2024 will offer. The manufacturer will also launch the new Peugeot e-3008, which has similar dimensions to those this model will have, so we can expect them to be very alike. The platform will be the same, and in the case of the French model, a range of up to 700 kilometres on the WLTP cycle is promised.

In the case of the Peugeot e-3008, Stellantis will offer three traction systems with different electric drive units, with one and two electric motors. The Grandland may offer the same technical specifications, so we would be looking at an almost identical model, but under another brand of the group.

The STLA Medium platform has been designed to shape the group’s electric vehicles. As for the length of these two models, the platform will allow the length to exceed 4.5 metres, since electric cars tend to offer somewhat longer wheelbases, between 10 and 20 centimetres more. For now, Stellantis is preparing an investment of 130 million euros at the Eisenach plant to handle production of this new generation of both vehicles.
