Opel updates the Rocks, its electric city car, with new aesthetic details

Opel introduces small design updates for the Rocks, both exterior and interior, clearly differentiating it from the design presented for the Ami

If there is one place where an electric vehicle stands out above the rest, it is in the city, and not only because of the restrictions that may apply, but also in terms of consumption, emissions, and ease of use. The Stellantis group, with its various brands, has also set its sights on younger buyers, offering them an urban product as an alternative to the electric scooter or electric bicycle, although obviously at a higher price.

They started with the Citroën Ami, followed by the FIAT Topolino with a fresher, more carefree image, and finally the Opel Rocks, which takes a styling practically copied from the first-generation Ami, since we should remember that the French quadricycle was updated with a new image that is as striking as it is modern. Now it is the turn of the Opel Rocks, but unlike its French sibling, the Rocks will not undergo changes as radical and therefore as eye-catching.

As far as its exterior is concerned, as you can see, the basis of its design remains unchanged, although the brand has applied the “Detox” philosophy as it has to its other models. This means that, at the front and more specifically just below the windscreen, sits the “Opel Vizor”, which is now entirely black, featuring the characteristic blitz logos of the brand in white, including the one fitted at the rear. For the bodywork, it opts for light grey, which contrasts with the black now applied to the roof, as well as the lower part of the bumpers, the wheel arches and, to a greater extent, the wheels.

If the changes on the exterior are only aesthetic, the interior sees more of the same, though to a lesser extent. When we open the doors, the generous light provided by the panoramic tempered glass roof welcomes us, a small but well-lit space in which to see the only change inside: the blitz fitted to the steering wheel is also in white on a black background, just as on the exterior.

In terms of equipment, the Opel Rocks remains an urban car that prioritises simplicity and functionality, so the interior, very well used, has no great excesses. The only screen sits behind the steering wheel and provides basic information, while the infotainment system is left to the user: the smartphone is connected in the base via a DAT dongle for network connection and access to the myOpel app, while via Bluetooth they can listen to music, use the navigation or make calls.

Obviously there are no changes mechanically: the Opel Rocks will continue to deliver 6 kW of power with peaks of 9 kW, which, together with the 5.5 kWh batteries, allows it to register a range of 75 kilometres, which is more than sufficient to guarantee daily mobility within the city and, once discharged, to be ready to use again after two hours of charging.
