The Peugeot supermini returns to the Geneva Motor Show three years after its international debut to showcase its styling, engines and equipment updated. The 2015 range, available in Spain from June, aims to emphasise the model’s playful and sporty character by adding new versions and customisation options.

The new 208 is recognised above all for its rejuvenated front end, with bi-tone headlights whose daytime LEDs have been rearranged, a wider grille and a redesigned front bumper, as well as the new range of alloy wheels and new rear light clusters with a different colouring and LEDs whose light produces a three-dimensional effect.

The exterior colour palette grows with the new Orange Power and, as happened with the 308 and 508, the GT Line trim is introduced, giving the 208 an appearance similar to that of the GTi. Customers can also choose new personalisation packs that allow a different colour for certain components such as the grille or the exterior mirror housings.

The cabin features softer materials on the dashboard covering, new white backlighting for the instrument cluster and an updated multimedia system that now includes the MirrorScreen function to mirror a smartphone‘s apps on the 7-inch touchscreen. Units fitted with a panoramic roof add blue ambient lighting.

The entire engine range has been modified to comply with the Euro 6 standard. The petrol line-up consists of the 1.0 PureTech with 68 CV, 1.2 PureTech with 82 CV, 1.2 PureTech Turbo with 110 CV and 1.6 THP with 165 and 208 CV, the latter reserved for the 208 GTi.

The diesels are all BlueHDi 1.6-litre units with outputs of 75, 100 and 120 CV. Almost all come as standard with a manual gearbox with five speeds; only the 1.6 THP and the 120 CV 1.6 BlueHDi are paired with a six-speed unit.

Another novelty can be seen in the range of variants. The Peugeot 208 GTi 30th has been replaced by the new 208 GTi by PEUGEOT Sport, which, although it differs from the standard GTi through identical characteristics, is no longer a limited edition on this occasion.

Peugeot has also reinforced the 208’s safety equipment. With the update it can now be ordered with a rear-view camera and the Active City Brake automatic emergency braking system for city driving. The latter works at speeds below 30 km/h, as is common with other manufacturers.
