The Porsche range keeps growing. Last week it was the 718 family that welcomed the arrival of the GTS versions, and now it is the turn of the Porsche 911 Carrera T with “T” standing for Touring, a model that seeks to recover a more genuine driving pleasure, something that is perhaps lost in modern sports cars with so much technology and electronics.

The new Porsche 911 Carrera T looks to revive a more purist concept of what a sports car should be, based on the 1968 911 T. This new version is characterised by a lower weight, shorter gear ratios in its manual gearbox and a rear-wheel-drive system with a mechanical limited-slip differential, all to make us feel we are behind the wheel of an old-school sports car.

The kerb weight of the 911 Carrera T is set at 1,425 kilos. Porsche engineers have achieved this figure by using other materials and solutions: for example, the rear window and side glass are now made of a lightweight material, the doors are opened by leather pull straps, the sound-absorbing pieces have been considerably reduced, the optional rear seats have been removed, and the two front seats are 20 kilos lighter. In addition, there is the option of not fitting the Porsche Communication Management system.

But besides all this, the 911 Carrera T also features elements that a standard 911 Carrera does not. These are intended to offer more sportiness: the PASM sport chassis comes as standard, along with the Sport Chrono Package, which also optimises weight, a 20 mm lower ride height and an even shorter gear lever. Additionally, and as an option available only for this 911 Carrera T, the rear-axle steering can be installed.

Aesthetically, it is distinguished not only by the 911 Carrera T logos in Agate Grey, but from the front you can appreciate the new aerodynamic spoiler and the Sport Design mirrors painted in Agate Grey Metallic; in profile, its specific Carrera S wheels of 20 inches in Titanium Grey stand out; while the rear is characterised by the bonnet louvres and the sport exhaust tailpipes painted black. For the bodywork you can choose from 9 different colours, three of them in metallic finish.

Inside there are also elements specific to this model, such as the central section of its electrically adjustable sport seats upholstered in Sport-Tex fabric, which can also be exclusively replaced with full bucket seats as an option on the 911 Carrera T. Another new addition for this model is the T interior package, which allows contrasting touches inside in Racing Yellow, Guards Red or GT Silver, applied to elements such as the seat belts, the 911 logo on the headrests, the central section of the seats in Sport-Tex fabric or the door opening pulls.

Mechanically it still relies on the 3.0-litre twin-turbo six-cylinder flat engine, delivering 370 CV and a torque of 450 Nm available between 1,750 and 5,000 rpm. But thanks to the weight reduction I mentioned earlier, the power-to-weight ratio is improved, specifically to 3.85 kg/CV, which guarantees greater performance and a really quick cornering pace. Its acceleration to 100 km/h is also very fast thanks to the optimised manual transmission, set at just 4.5 seconds, or 15.1 seconds to reach 200 km/h. The PDK automatic transmission is also available as an option; in this case acceleration drops to 4.2 seconds for 100 km/h and 14.5 seconds for 200 km/h.

In Spain you can now visit Porsche dealerships to order the 911 Carrera T, at a final price of 124,259 euros, although if you opt for the PDK automatic gearbox the price falls slightly to 124,010 euros. Deliveries to owners will begin from January 2018.
