Porsche 911 GT3 Cup 992.2: everything about the new Supercup car

New aerodynamics, chassis upgrades, naturally aspirated flat-six engine and e-fuel: this is the new Porsche 911 GT3 Cup that will dominate in 2026

Yes, you read that right: 5,381 units of pure adrenaline have already rolled off the production line since the first Porsche 911 GT3 Cup roared onto the circuits back in 1990. And now, after decades dominating the one-make series and shaping generations of drivers, the time has come for a handover.

Porsche decided that creating one of the best-selling racing cars on the planet wasn’t enough. No, now they want to perfect it. To do so, they have been working flat out since January 2024 to bring to life the new generation of the 911 GT3 Cup, which will make its official debut this summer before taking to the track in 2026.

And if you’re wondering who has tamed this beast during the testing phase, pay attention: Bastian Buus, 2023 Supercup champion, Klaus Bachler, winner of the 2024 FIA World Endurance Trophy LMGT3, and the brilliant Laurin Heinrich, newly crowned IMSA GTD Pro champion. Alongside them and Marco Seefried, the 911 Cup has received a brutal setup after visiting Monza, Lausitzring and the legendary Porsche test centre in Weissach.

Born in Zuffenhausen, raised in Weissach… and ready to dominate

The new Cup is not just an evolution; it is a statement of intent. Porsche has taken the scalpel to it and reworked every key element: optimised front aerodynamics, new levels of safety, advances in brakes, transmission and electronics, and, of course, the ever-intoxicating naturally aspirated six-cylinder boxer engine, which remains the cornerstone of this legend on wheels.

The outgoing 911 GT3 Cup, the 992.1 model, was already a true gem. It debuted a wider chassis (similar to that of the 911 Turbo) and was the first Cup with a double-wishbone front suspension, something we had previously only seen on the RSR or the GT3 R. In addition, its engine delivered 510 naturally aspirated horsepower at 8,400 rpm, without electronic aids such as ABS or traction control, which turned every fast lap into an exercise in pure talent.

And where was such a machine cooked up? In Weissach, of course. But the best part is that, as always, it will be built on the same line as the road-going 911s, at the historic Zuffenhausen plant. So yes, it shares DNA with your 911 Carrera S… although the Cup probably has far fewer comforts and a lot more desire to break lap times.

All development has been carried out exclusively with e-fuel, the same synthetic fuel that Porsche is testing in the Supercup. By betting not only on competition, but on a cleaner and more sustainable competition.

Why should you care about this if you don’t race in the Supercup?

Because the 911 GT3 Cup is more than a racing car. It is the DNA of Porsche taken to the extreme, a laboratory on wheels from which many technologies that end up in road models are drawn.

Moreover, it is not a showpiece. It is a tool for private drivers and teams from halfway around the world, who compete in more than twelve Porsche Carrera Cups, 23 Sprint Challenges and endurance events sponsored by the brand. A true Porsche Motorsport ecosystem, with this car at its epicentre.

Based on the recent 992.2 generation of the 911, the new Cup will debut in 2026 in the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup, warming up its tyres alongside F1, and will become the new benchmark in the national Carrera Cups.
