RAM joins the trend of range-extended pick-ups and forgets about the large batteries
The launch of the electric RAM 1500 pick-up is moving forward, but the version with the larger battery is being replaced by one with a range extender.

In the United States, like the rest of the world, they want to reach a kind of electric mobility that becomes the most common way of getting around. But they do not want to lose the characteristics that their most popular models offer, and they are looking for the same performance in electric models. RAM is one of the country’s major pick-up manufacturers, but it has not yet launched a 100% electric model on the market.
It is planned to do so within a short time, but its plans on this matter have been changed by a last-minute change. RAM wanted to launch two versions of its electric pick-up. The first of them will feature a battery with a capacity of 168 kWh, while it planned to launch an XL variant with a larger battery of 229 kWh.

However, it has been decided to remove the XL version from the lineup, which is being replaced by a version with a range extender. This will have a combustion engine that will supply energy to the battery when it runs out of charge. It is a petrol engine that will offer 615 CV of power and 832 Nm of torque.
The Ramcharger, which is what this new version of the model will be called, will be able to cover up to 1,100 kilometres without problems with the battery fully charged and the tank full. With this solution, users will be able to use the model in fully electric mode, but they will also be able to use the electric motor occasionally to charge the battery if necessary.
The presence of electric drive systems with a range extender seemed destined to disappear, but over the past few years their use has become popular and they have become a very efficient solution to mitigate the effect of the lack of adequate infrastructure to improve the functionality of electric models.
