Rivian reveals the prices of the different versions of its new R2 SUV

Rivian has chosen to roll out the different versions of the R2 SUV gradually, starting with the top-of-the-range model and leaving the most affordable of all for late 2027.

Rivian has officially announced the prices and versions available for its new mid-size electric SUV, the R2, a model considered vital for the company’s future. Deliveries will begin in spring 2026, starting with the Performance version, the most powerful and best equipped.

Launch in style

Of the R2 Performance, it is worth highlighting that this version features dual electric motors and all-wheel drive (AWD), semi-active suspension, matrix LED headlights, a premium audio system with nine speakers plus subwoofers, a high-quality interior with birch wood trim, 21-inch wheels and yellow brake calipers. In addition, the Launch package adds an exclusive green paint finish, a towing hitch and lifetime access to Rivian’s charging network.

As a temporary launch offer, the R2 Performance with the Launch package will be available in the US market from $57,990.

Also in late 2026, Rivian will begin selling the Premium version. The R2 Premium will keep dual-motor AWD, offering a combined output of 331 kW, which will allow it to reach 60 mph from a standstill in just 4.6 seconds. Rivian promises an EPA range for this version of 330 miles (531 km). Standard equipment includes a premium audio system, matrix headlights and heated and ventilated front seats, with 20-inch wheels as standard or 21-inch wheels as an option.

The price of the R2 Premium in the US market will be slightly lower than that of the top-of-the-range Performance version, representing a saving of four thousand dollars, as it will be available from $53,990.

The most affordable versions of the R2 SUV will not arrive until 2027

In the first half of 2027, the R2 Standard with rear-wheel drive (RWD) will join the range, with a single electric motor producing 257 kW, which will allow it to reach 60 mph from a standstill in 5.9 seconds. Its range, meanwhile, will be slightly higher, reaching up to 345 miles (555 km). The equipment level of this version lives up to its name, being simpler or “standard”, with a basic sound system, 19-inch wheels as standard or 20-inch wheels as an option, and a towing hitch. Rivian announces a base price for the R2 Standard of $48,490. This is $5,500 less than the Premium version.

This will not, however, be the most affordable version of the new R2. The California manufacturer has confirmed that in late 2027 a Standard version with an even lower price, around 45 thousand dollars, will arrive in the US market. Rivian has announced a range for this version of 275 miles, which suggests it will be exactly the same as the Standard version mentioned in the previous paragraph but with a smaller-capacity battery pack.

The R2 is based on a completely new platform, developed with the aim of reaching a much wider audience by reducing costs, without sacrificing off-road capability compared with the R1S, the California manufacturer’s premium SUV.
