The KIA e-Niro is being removed from the brand's catalogue and remains only as a hybrid model
The electric KIA Niro has been discontinued in South Korea, where it is no longer offered in this version, before starting to disappear from other markets as well.

The KIA Niro was launched as a multi-energy model, meaning it was on the market with different types of powertrain. Initially, it could be bought as a hybrid car, plug-in hybrid and a fully electric variant. But things have changed: KIA has launched several electric models positioned above this one and has decided to stop selling it in this variant.
The EV2, EV3, EV5, EV6 and EV9 models were designed as battery electric vehicles from the outset, which makes them considerably more efficient than models that share different types of powertrain. As a result, the KIA Niro has become somewhat outdated compared with these other electric models.

For the time being, this will happen in South Korea, where the decision has already been made and the electric version has been discontinued. This means it remains available and will continue to be offered in other markets, at least until the existing stock is sold and it is gradually phased out.
The Niro will thus remain as a hybrid car and will drop its fully electric powertrain, which has been overtaken by other offerings from the brand itself. This move is in line with the strategy followed by this and other brands, which are boosting combustion engines over electric versions, while awaiting the definitive arrival of electrification in the different markets.
However, this decision may prove detrimental to the model, as there are other similar KIA models on the South Korean market with comparable characteristics, such as the recently updated KIA Seltos. Yet the latter has a body closer to an SUV, while the Niro offers a lower, more urban driving position, which benefits it when choosing a car intended for the city.
For now, the Niro EV will remain present in many countries, although its end is near. The brand’s new electric models will take over, more efficiently.
