Škoda Fabia and Fabia Combi get the new 1.0 TSI three-cylinder engine
Škoda Fabia
This new 1.0 TSI three-cylinder engine that will power the Škoda Fabia and Fabia Combi will make its debut at the Geneva Motor Show, running from 7 to 19 March 2017. It replaces the four-cylinder 1.2-litre engine used until now. The increase in injection pressure reduces consumption by up to 6%, while also delivering better performance.
Its compact design saves weight thanks to its lightweight aluminium crankcase, which weighs 10 kilograms less than the 1.2-litre engine it replaces. The aluminium pistons and connecting rods are so well balanced that the engine runs smoothly and refined, which means no balancer shaft is required. The oil pump, which has adjustable flow, also helps reduce consumption and CO2 emissions, as it continuously adjusts the pressure required to match the engine load.
It will be offered with two power outputs, 95 and 110 CV. The 1.0 TSI with 95 CV will be paired with a five-speed manual gearbox. Top speed increases by 3 km/h, reaching 185 km/h, and consumption drops noticeably from 4.6 l/100 km (105 g CO2/km) to 4.3 l/100 km (99 g CO2/km). The more powerful version of the 1.0 TSI, delivering 110 CV, will be paired with a six-speed manual gearbox with a top speed of 196 km/h. A seven-speed DSG dual-clutch transmission is available as an option. Torque has risen from 175 to 200 Nm, which is especially noticeable when accelerating.

The Škoda Fabia, in both its five-door hatchback and Combi estate variants, offers safety systems such as six airbags, Electronic Stability Control (ESC) and the XDS+ electronic differential lock, and also offers Front Assist as an option, which reduces the risk of rear-end collisions with the integrated City Emergency Braking function (which stops the vehicle when an imminent collision is detected). Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) is also available for the new three-cylinder version. The KESSY keyless entry, start and exit system, front and rear parking sensors, rain sensors and Light Assist are among the other systems fitted to the Škoda Fabia.
The infotainment systems are also well represented in the Škoda Fabia’s equipment. As an option, it can be fitted with the new Škoda Connect services, which consist of Online Infotainment and Care Connect services. The services include Emergency Call, which automatically sets up a connection with an emergency centre when any of the restraint systems deploys, although it can also be triggered manually.
The SmartLink+ interface transfers apps from the selected smartphone, including navigation apps, to the infotainment system screen. The integrated SmartGate function allows vehicle information to be collected and stored on a connected smartphone and used on the move.
The “Simply Clever” concept and solutions are also present, including an umbrella under the front passenger seat, an ice scraper in the fuel filler cap, a multimedia compartment in the centre console cup holder (with space for a smartphone or iPod), a removable waste bin, a storage compartment for a high-visibility vest, bottle holders in the door frames, storage nets on the front seat backs and space for a 1-litre bottle in the glovebox.
