Skoda Kodiaq vRS: the most sporty SUV from Skoda... for now
Skoda will unveil the first model with the vRS badge in its SUV range at the Paris Motor Show in October: a Skoda Kodiaq with the most powerful TDI engine in the brand’s history.
The Skoda Kodiaq vRS that the brand will present in October at the Paris Motor Show debuts the new vRS logo that will identify the sportiest models of Skoda. And that is not all. As befits the first Skoda SUV to carry the vRS initials, performance and dynamic behaviour will be up to the task.
All-wheel drive and the most powerful TDI in a Skoda
To achieve this, Skoda did not hesitate to use the most powerful TDI engine ever fitted to one of the brand’s production models. The Skoda Kodiaq vRS carries under its bonnet the 2.0 TDI twin-turbo engine from the Volkswagen group, with a maximum output of 239 CV (176 kW) and maximum torque of 500 Nm. Naturally, the engine’s power will be sent to all four wheels through the 4Motion all-wheel-drive system and a 7-speed DSG dual-clutch gearbox.

There is no further official data for now, although a benchmark for performance could be the Volkswagen Tiguan Allspace with the same engine, which has a claimed top speed of 228 km/h and a 0 to 100 km/h acceleration time of 6.7 seconds. For the necessary chassis adjustments (suspension, steering and brakes), in order to deliver sporty handling, Skoda has tuned the new Kodiaq vRS at the Nürburgring circuit.
The history of the RS badge and the reason for the change
The Skoda RS range began in 2000 with the sporty version of the Octavia. Now, according to the brand, the introduction of the “v” in the new vRS logo refers to the word “victory”, although other reasons could be considered: Audi uses the same name on its most performance-oriented models, to name just one example. And it is not the only brand. There are Renault’s RS models, for instance.
The RS (Rally Sport) initials at Skoda refer to the 180 RS, 200 RS and 130 RS models of the mid-’70s, used in competition.
In any case, this stands as a tribute to the first Skoda RS (Rally Sport) models developed for competition, the Skoda 180 RS and 200 RS of the mid-1970s. They were followed by the
Skoda 130 RS of 1975, with which the brand achieved two class victories at the Monte Carlo Rally and the Acropolis Rally, earning this model the nickname “The Porsche of the East”.
