Seat has announced the appointment of Stefan Lamm as its new head of Exterior Design. The German designer, who holds the same post in the European division of Ford, will join the Spanish brand on 1 February 2015 and will report directly to its Design Director, Alejandro Mesonero-Romanos.

Lamm replaces Jorge Díez, head of the Audi Automotive Concept Design centre in Munich. He joined Ford Europe in January 2005 as a member of the Exterior Design team and in 2009 was promoted to director. Over these years he has taken part in several global and European projects of the blue oval under the leadership of Martin Smith, who announced that he would leave his post this summer.

S-Max 1The German designer’s recent work includes the facelift of the S-Max, both the prototype and the production model.

Lamm has contributed to the evolution of Ford’s Kinetic design language, which has been reflected in its latest launches. The most recent models whose design he has influenced are the new S-Max (you can see it in the video explaining the keys to the facelift), the new Mondeo, the B-Max and the Kuga.

He has also been involved in the conception of the prototypes that previewed several of these models or whose features were carried over to production products. Among them, the S-Max Concept, the Evos and the Vertrek, the forerunner of the second generation of the Kuga, stand out.

His time at Ford was preceded by almost a decade in the Exterior Design department of Opel, in Rüsselsheim, where he joined in February 1994. Lamm was born in Dortmund in 1969 and his academic career spans the Design school of the University of Pforzheim, in south-western Germany, and the Art Center College of Design in Vevey, in western Switzerland, where he graduated.
