Stellantis deploys 50 Citroën vans and Peugeot that run on hydrogen in Paris
Stellantis reaches an agreement with Hype to test its hydrogen fuel cell in 50 vans from the Citroen and Peugeot brands, adapted for people with reduced mobility

Lately we have seen several brands test hydrogen fuel cells in a variety of their models and under different conditions, and more and more brands are joining this trend in order to reach net-zero emissions by 2035 and contribute to sustainable mobility. Stellantis, with its brands Peugeot and Citroen, has teamed up with the hydrogen specialist company, Hype, signing a collaboration agreement to bring fuel cell technology to some of its models.
The first element of this agreement is to use hydrogen as fuel in a small fleet of vehicles on which the features will be tested. This fleet will consist of 50 vans, including 25 Peugeot e-Expert and 25 Citroen ë-Jumpy manufactured at the Hordain, France plant.
As Xavier Peugeot, Stellantis strategy executive, states: “With these vehicles, the Peugeot e-Expert Hydrogen and Citroën ë-Jumpy Hydrogen, we are going to further strengthen our leadership in zero-emission vans, through our partnership with Hype, focused on people with reduced mobility.”

These vans have been produced with the aim of accelerating the energy transition by offering emission-free transport and improving the quantity and quality of transport services for people with reduced mobility, as they have the capacity for 5 passengers, including one wheelchair user, or 6 passengers without a wheelchair.
A notable feature of these vans is their ‘hybrid’ powertrain, combining a conventional electric battery with a hydrogen fuel cell. In addition, these vans achieve a range of 400 kilometres and are able to recharge in just 3 minutes, which will be appreciated by those who use the van continuously.

In the collaboration between Stellantis and Hype, they show how they hope to deploy up to 1,000 PRM hydrogen taxis by the end of 2024, also contributing to the new taxi operating licence recently announced by France.
“I am very pleased with this first delivery of 50 Peugeot and Citroën wheelchair-accessible hydrogen taxis in Paris, as part of our collaboration with Stellantis, which represents a new stage that is important for the development of Hype and for structuring the French hydrogen industry,” said Mathieu Gardies, CEO and Founder of Hype.
This may signal the beginning of a new stage for the Peugeot and Citroen brands, and having tested their hydrogen fuel cell in this way, they will be able to carry out a study that allows them to use this new form of sustainable transport in several of their models.
