SVOLT is confirmed as the supplier of the LFP cells used in the Citroën ë-C3

Some rumours claim that the LFP cells in the battery pack of the new Citroën ë-Berlingo could also come from SVOLT, but this has not been confirmed so far.

After months of rumours, it has finally been confirmed that SVOLT is the official supplier of the cells for the battery pack of the new low-cost electric model from the French manufacturer. Citroën unveiled the ë-C3 last October, laying the groundwork for a new generation of affordable electric models. With a price below €24,000 in Spain, this city electric car offers a WLTP range of 320 km.

The ë-C3 will, however, become even more affordable in 2025. By then Citroën plans to market a version with a smaller-capacity battery pack that will reduce its WLTP range to around 200 km, in exchange for an even lower price that will fall below the €20,000 barrier.

It was Kai-Uwe Wollenhaupt, current President of SVOLT Europe and Senior Vice President of SVOLT Energy Technology, who, in recent statements, confirmed his company’s link with Citroën, asserting that, thanks to its genuinely accessible price, the ë-C3 has the potential to mark a before and after by driving electric mobility forward as no other electric model has done before. He then added that he was very proud that SVOLT was also responsible for this.

The energy density of SVOLT’s LFP cells remains a secret

Although SVOLT has been revealed as the official supplier of the LFP cells used in the ë-C3’s battery pack, the Chinese company has not, however, wished to give specific details about them, limiting itself to highlighting some of the advantages of this battery technology. Among them, it mentioned their greater stability, offering a higher level of safety, as well as the greater number of charge cycles they withstand with less degradation of their performance.

The battery pack of the Citroën ë-C3 has a capacity of 44 kWh and, according to the manufacturer, supports a maximum charging power of 100 kW in direct current. In this way, it is possible to increase the state of charge of the battery pack from 20 to 80 percent in about 26 minutes. Whereas going from 10 to 80 percent will take just over 30 minutes.
