Tesla celebrates the production of its 10 millionth vehicle

Tesla thus becomes the first manufacturer of exclusively electric vehicles to reach this remarkable production figure.

Tesla has reached a historic milestone by producing its ten millionth vehicle worldwide. The model that had the honour of achieving this milestone was a Model Y in Diamond Black that rolled off the production line at the Fremont plant in California.

Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla, marked the occasion with a congratulatory message to all of the company’s employees: “Congratulations to the Tesla team! Producing 10 million vehicles is an incredible amount of work”.

Tesla Giga Berlin Production

This achievement highlights the speed at which the company has grown. In spring 2020, Tesla reached one million vehicles produced at Fremont. Since then, it has needed only six years to multiply that figure by ten, despite a small setback in 2025 when sales fell by 9 percent.

Global production

This tremendous leap in production volume is mainly explained by the worldwide expansion of its Gigafactory network. In addition to the Fremont plant, Tesla opened the Shanghai Gigafactory in January 2020, started up the Berlin-Brandenburg (Grünheide) plant in March 2022, and opened the Texas plant in Austin that April.

The foundation of this industrial growth was first laid with the premium Model S and Model X. The company then turned to higher-volume segments: production of the Model 3 began in July 2017, and that of the Model Y SUV in January 2020. The latter has also been built in Grünheide since 2022.

In 2023, the Model Y became the best-selling vehicle in the world, regardless of powertrain type, and the first fully electric vehicle to top the annual global sales ranking. The following year, the Toyota RAV4 — including its Chinese version under the Wildlander name — narrowly overtook the Model Y, with approximately 1.187 million units versus 1.185 million for the Tesla SUV. The difference was fewer than 3,000 vehicles.
