Tesla is preparing to launch a new version of the Model 3 with more than 800 km of range
Tesla is strengthening its product lineup for the Chinese market by offering two models with extended range and more generous dimensions in the case of the Model Y L.
Tesla is about to put on sale two new versions of its popular Model 3 and Model Y with extended range. Both vehicles, initially intended exclusively for the Chinese market, have recently been registered by China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, better known by the acronym MIIT.
As of today, it is unknown whether Tesla could at some point sell any of these two models in other markets, such as Europe or North America. In any case, considering that only the Model 3 produced in China is exported, in this case to Europe, the chances of this new extended-range version eventually reaching our market are somewhat higher. But this is something that remains to be seen.

Nothing can stop you
The Tesla Model 3+, which is the name chosen by the manufacturer, is presented as the version with the greatest range of this saloon sold to date, capable of covering up to 830 km on a single charge. That said, under the Chinese CLTC homologation cycle, which as we already know is somewhat generous and tends to bear little resemblance to real-world conditions.
In any case, these 830 km of CLTC range represent a significant improvement over the 753 km offered by the Model 3 AWD Long Range currently on sale. According to the data available at this time, the new Model 3+ features an NMC battery pack of 78.4 kWh, weighing 448 kilos with an energy density of 175 Wh/kg. As a result, the total weight of the vehicle rises to 1,760 kg.
It also has an electric motor on the rear axle that delivers 225 kW of power -31 kW more than the base version-. The Model 3+ thus stands out for combining efficiency and performance, positioning itself as a genuinely attractive option for drivers accustomed to covering long distances without stopping for an intermediate charge.

The Model Y gets a growth spurt
On the other hand, the Tesla Model Y L, which we already discussed in a previous article, has been designed with a six-seat configuration and offers a range of up to 751 kilometres under the CLTC homologation cycle. This model features an NMC battery pack of 82 kWh, also supplied by LG, weighing 465 kilos with an energy density of 176 Wh/kg. The total weight of the vehicle on the scales thus comes to 2,088 kilograms.

The Model Y L also has a dual electric motor system, one on the front axle with 142 kW and another on the rear with 198 kW. In terms of dimensions, this model measures 4.98 metres long, 1.92 metres wide and 1.67 metres high, with a wheelbase of 3.04 metres. Compared with the standard Model Y, it is therefore 18 centimetres longer, has 15 centimetres more wheelbase and is five centimetres taller, which makes it ideal for all those customers seeking more interior space, such as families with several children.
