XPENG unveils the second generation of its P7 sedan with an 800V architecture and a charging power of 486 kW
With outstanding range and surprising charging power, the new XPENG P7 is a true distance-devouring machine.
XPENG has just unveiled the second generation of the P7, an electric sedan aimed at the Chinese market that combines cutting-edge technology, modern design and outstanding performance. Based on an 800-volt architecture, this model stands out for supporting a charging power of up to 486 kW, offering a CLTC range of up to 820 km.
Originally launched in 2020, the first-generation P7 was a success for XPENG, with close to 60,000 units sold in 2021, accounting for more than half of the brand’s total deliveries that year. This second generation, officially revealed at an event in Beijing, steps things up with an aerodynamic drag coefficient of just 0.201 Cd, enlarged dimensions with 12 centimetres more in length and a wheelbase of three metres, which guarantees generous interior space.

Once inside the vehicle, it is immediately clear that this is a premium model. This is evident from the central 15.6-inch touchscreen with three-axis movement capability, its digital instrument cluster, together with an innovative 87-inch head-up display developed with Huawei technology and augmented reality functions.
As if that were not enough, the P7 incorporates an AI-powered voice assistant and offers level 3 autonomous driving capabilities. All of this thanks to the processing capacity provided by three XPENG Turing chips with a computing power of 2,500 TOPS.
Notable technical specifications
In terms of performance, the P7 is available with two battery options, with capacities of 74.9 kWh or 92.2 kWh, which allow for CLTC ranges of between 702 and 820 km. The rear-wheel-drive version delivers 270 kW, while the all-wheel-drive model reaches 437 kW, accelerating from 0 to 100 km/h in just 3.7 seconds.

When it comes to recharging, the new XPENG sedan stands out from the rest as it is capable of adding 525 km of range in just 10 minutes, provided it is connected to a suitable ultra-fast charger. The vehicle’s 800V architecture, with a supported charging power of up to 486 kW, makes possible something remarkable: raising the state of charge from 10 to 80 percent in under 12 minutes.
Rivals are not in short supply
In China, the P7 competes with models such as the Xiaomi SU7, the Zeekr 001, or the BYD Han L, and in Europe it will face rivals of the calibre of the BMW i5 or the Mercedes EQE once it arrives on the continent. In China, its base price starts at 300,000 yuan – just over 35,000 euros at current exchange rates.

Following its presentation, XPENG has announced 10,000 reservations registered in the first six minutes. This was surely helped by the fact that, to place a reservation, the manufacturer required a symbolic deposit of just 99 yuan, roughly 11 euros at current exchange rates.
