The Elexio electric SUV from Beijing Hyundai will finally be called EO

The EO will only be the beginning of a new era for Beijing Hyundai, which aims to carve out a place in China’s competitive electric vehicle market.

Beijing Hyundai is preparing to break into China’s electric vehicle market with the launch of the EO, an electric SUV that until now we knew as Elexio. This model, which will reach dealerships in this Asian country next September, marks the start of an ambitious brand strategy that involves launching a total of five fully electric vehicles over the next three years, with prices ranging from 100,000 to 300,000 yuan.

The EO is presented as an SUV with a modern look, designed to stand out in a market where that is becoming increasingly difficult. According to the manufacturer itself, this model will offer a range of 700 km under the CLTC homologation cycle, equipped for this purpose with an LFP battery pack supplied by FinDreams, a subsidiary of BYD.

When recharging, the EO will be able to increase the state of charge from 30 to 80 percent in just 27 minutes. These last figures are similar to those of other rivals in its segment.

With its own identity

This new electric SUV from Beijing Hyundai also stands out for its striking daytime running lights, with a design that incorporates the number 8, associated with good luck in Chinese culture. It also features a latest-generation infotainment system powered by a Qualcomm 8295P chip and offers L2+ driver assistance.

As for its dimensions, at 4,615 mm long, 1,875 mm wide and 1,675 mm high, the EO falls into the compact SUV category, standing out for its interior space compared with its rivals in the segment. It will be available in two configurations: the first with a single 160 kW electric motor integrated into the front axle, and another with a dual electric motor setup that adds an additional 73 kW electric motor on the rear axle, delivering a combined output of 233 kW. Both versions will, moreover, have their top speed limited to 185 km/h.

Although Beijing Hyundai has not yet confirmed the official price of this new electric SUV, it is estimated it will not exceed 150,000 yuan -a little under 20,000 euros at current exchange rates-, making it a fairly competitive alternative in the Chinese market.
