The 10 cars with the ugliest and most offensive names in history
Globalization brings consequences. One of the most obvious is names. The difference between languages sometimes creates real monstrosities…
The globalization is, on many occasions, a problem. The variety among languages enriches us culturally, adds to our history and makes us grow as a species. However, and as Murphy used to say, if something can happen, however unlikely, it will eventually happen…
Not to go any further, the famous mobile phone company, Nokia, launched on the market a model called Lumia. Translated, this name means Whore. That is to say, if someone asks you what phone you have, you would have to answer, I have the Nokia Whore. Thank goodness that with Lumia nobody notices…
The subject of vehicle names does not go unnoticed, and there are not few cases in which the various manufacturers, perhaps due to a deficient department or lack of interest, have introduced, in this case, to our Spanish-speaking market, models with very ugly names, and also offensive ones.
Relax and take it with a sense of humor because below we present the 10 cars with the strangest names, ugliest and most offensive in history:
A collection of ridiculous names
- Mitsubishi Pajero: We start the list with one of the models with the ugliest name par excellence. The Mitsubishi Pajero came from the land of the rising sun, and getting one would be a reason for laughter and mockery from your entire social circle. Thankfully the name was eventually changed to Montero… for more than obvious reasons.

- Seat Málaga: the problem with this model is that it was sold outside our borders, and in Greece it had to be called Seat Gredos. In this country Malaga sounds too much like malaka, which is also a term similar to pajero…

- Opel Cascada: here it is each person’s perverted mind that can realize the problem. If you have thought of the other meaning of the word, you may have a problem, hahaha. Instead of referring to the waterfall, people associated it with, well… you know what…

- Nissan Moco: this one, more than offensive, is funny. The Japanese seem unique in hitting it with the most grotesque words of our language. We assume they must sound very “cool” with their pronunciation. This little one was called Moco, which can refer to the drool from our nostrils or to the typical Spanish expression “ir super moco” (to be super snotty). Both horrible…

- Ford Corrida: unlike Cascada, corrida is much easier to pervert, as it is mostly used to refer to an ejaculation. Bullfights every day move more into the background, so it is no surprise that the American manufacturer had to rectify this embarrassing name…

- Mazda Laputa: I honestly can’t stop laughing at this name. No explanation is needed, but imagining a Japanese person pronouncing it with pride makes me laugh a lot. Fortunately the model never reached Spain, although knowing us, it surely would not have sold badly, just for the joke…

- Kia Borrego: another one to add to the collection. Its name refers to a poor animal, which unfortunately in our culture is associated with someone without initiative, who follows others’ ideas without imagination, or who is simply dumb…

- Toyota MR2: in France the number 2 had to be removed from its name, since pronounced it sounded like “Mierdeux”, that is, “Toyota de mierda” (shit). Honestly, we don’t think anyone likes this… hahaha

- Audi Q3: this one is somewhat far-fetched, but changing the intonation, it ends up sounding like Audi cheap…
- Opel Ascona: in Portugal the name was changed to 1604, because translated into Portuguese it meant Opel Loscoño…

- Lancia Marica: this one is especially funny, because you can play jokes with your friends like, “hey dude, go get the Lancia, Marica!”. In response to a possible defensive reaction, you could argue that this is officially the car’s name…

- Honda Fitta: in Sweden it never reached the market under that name, since it literally meant… “Honda Little pussy”. To top it off it had the slogan “smaller outside, bigger inside, better in every respect”. As you can see, Murphy’s law is entirely right… 🙂

As you may have noticed, there have been no few cases of cars with a deplorable, offensive and funny name, and we are sure they will not be the last…
