At the MotorLand Aragón circuit, the quest for perfection continues, where Alpine keeps advancing in the development of its Hypercar A424. Over two intense days, more than 1,500 kilometres were covered, exploring a diverse range of scenarios, in an demanding task involving the talented drivers Nicolas Lapierre and Matthieu Vaxiviere.

This second phase of testing is not only an exercise in speed and skill on track, but also a process of systems tuning and aerodynamic adjustments, a crucial step prior to the homologation of this dream car. Spain is consolidating itself as a key point in the development of the Alpine A424, with plans to continue at Jerez in October, and to return to MotorLand Aragón in November.

Innovation based on experience

Drawing on the lessons learned from the first tests carried out at the Paul Ricard Circuit during the summer, the Alpine and Signatech teams have been immersed in a painstaking development phase of the A424, refining the definitive software for managing this cutting-edge vehicle.

The latest updates were subjected to rigorous testing, first in the simulator and then at the Lurcy-Lévis circuit, where 780 kilometres were completed over two intense days. Besides verifying the car’s performance, these tests made it possible to fine-tune crucial systems, including brakes, differential and other essential components. This lays the groundwork for an even more efficient session in Aragón.

Aragón, a new testing ground

Last Wednesday, the Alpine A424 began a new stage of development at MotorLand Aragón, with a work programme spanning two full days. The short and long track sessions provided data and driver impressions for the engineers, who gave very good feedback.

On the first day, Nicolas Lapierre took to the track, covering 758 kilometres in the afternoon, including two runs of 36 laps, which allowed the teams to adjust various elements of the car, especially the ride height of the Hypercar.

The long runs, with double driver changes, offered a deeper understanding of the durability of the Michelin WEC 2024 tyres and the thermal behaviour under the bonnet. The short runs served to refine the aerodynamic balance, weight distribution and operation of the hybrid system, as well as to begin meticulous work on mechanical set-up.

The Alpine A424 is ready to return to the track at Jerez from 17 to 19 October, for a new phase of adjustments ahead of its first endurance session scheduled for mid-November, a milestone close to the homologation limit. But before that challenge, the A424 will head to Viry-Châtillon, where engineers will continue refining every phase, including start-up, and analysing the electrical and electronic components. This meticulous approach is Alpine’s hallmark, and promises a truly exceptional Hypercar.
