The MPV segment is in decline, as few manufacturers still bet on this type of vehicle in favour of SUVs, an unstoppable segment with numerous variants to its name. Even so, there are still MPVs on the market, such as the Serie 2 Active Tourer, a second generation that was unveiled last autumn.

A few days after the second generation of the Serie 2 Active Tourer was unveiled, BMW began selling it, although until now it could only be ordered with conventional diesel and petrol engines. Several months later, BMW continues to complete the Serie 2 Active Tourer range, which is now also available in its plug-in hybrid versions.

The major difference of these plug-in hybrid versions compared with the rest of the range lies, as you might imagine, under the bonnet. On one hand, there is the entry-level version called the 225e xDrive, which delivers 245 CV of power, allowing it to accelerate to 100 km/h in 6.7 seconds, while on the other hand, one step up is the 230e xDrive, with 326 CV of power, enabling it to reach 100 km/h in 5.5 seconds.

Both versions can be equipped with a gearbox with paddle shifters behind the steering wheel or a Steptronic dual-clutch gearbox, again sending power to all four wheels thanks to the intelligent xDrive system. Both versions also use a lithium-ion battery with a capacity of 14.2 kWh, which gives them a fully electric range of 87 km according to the WLTP test cycle.
