Caterham Project V Electric Cars

The Caterham Project V is being shown at CES in Las Vegas and will soon arrive at the Tokyo Motor Show, bringing production of the model even closer.

Two years ago, Caterham presented the Project V, its electric model. There have not been any major steps in the development of the model, at least publicly, but it has already been seen at CES in Las Vegas and will soon also be presented at the Tokyo Motor Show. This may suggest that it will soon enter production and that we will have it on the international market in a short time.
The American market, which has been outside Caterham’s plans for 50 years, may be important for the future of the brand, and the Project V aims to be the gateway to a market that, according to the brand’s overseas manager, Justin Gardiner, could be very important for it.

An electric car with the Caterham spirit
The Caterham Project V aims to offer innovation and modernity, but also to maintain everything that makes the brand known and appreciated by enthusiasts of this type of vehicle. Caterham’s engineers have worked to place the batteries in a different position from the traditional one, on the floor of the platform.

Instead, they have been placed at the front and rear of the car, which distributes the weight across those two areas. The aim is to replicate the dynamics of the Caterham Seven, so that the sensations at the wheel are similar. In this way, the driver’s seat sits as close to the ground as possible, increasing the sense of dynamism. The batteries offer a capacity of 27 kWh and supply a 268 CV Yamaha motor.
The battery is cooled thanks to a dielectric liquid, which allows it to maintain its performance under high-demand conditions. The charging capacity is 100 kW, although according to Caterham, what matters in this car is how the battery discharges, not how long it takes to charge.
The model is designed to offer an intense experience on the track or on a country road, where demands are not as high as on the motorway. What matters is the feeling at the wheel, rather than the other considerations that seem to matter more in other electric models.
The starting price of this model is not known, but it is expected to be available in the United States for 135,000 dollars. In Europe it could be priced below 100,000 euros, and production will be quite limited.
