The end of an era is here: the last two Ford Fiesta have already left the factory

The Ford Fiesta has reached the end of its production run, as the Cologne plant has stopped building this model and has set aside the last two for the brand

Ford Fiesta Curiosidades

There are many iconic, legendary, perhaps models. Those cars that have become something more than a city car for getting around. One of those models that has made history is the Ford Fiesta. This model has been part of the lives of many people across the whole world and has been one of the most popular. After 47 years and eight generations, the last two units of the model have left the Cologne plant in Germany.

The reasons behind the end of production of the model are several, but it can be said that interest in a model belonging to the B-segment, that of compact city cars, has waned. The truth is that this is a type of vehicle that has lost many sales in favour of the increasingly popular SUVs. Given these circumstances, nothing else could be expected than the withdrawal of this model from the market.

Ford Fiesta Generations 13

Eight generations aimed at young people

The Ford Fiesta went on sale in 1976 and from that moment on enjoyed great popularity. Over these 47 years, more than 18 million units have been sold worldwide. The first million units sold was reached just three years after its launch, in 1981.

However, the model’s popularity has fallen in recent years. Although it has always been a car chosen for its low price and its characteristics, associated with young drivers, sales have gradually declined. In addition, the costs of this type of vehicle have kept rising, so continuing with it was quite expensive.

It is not the only model to have been discontinued by the blue oval brand. The S-Max, the Galaxy, the Mondeo and the Focus, which will stop offering the five-door version in 2025. The Fiesta’s successor has been the Ford Puma, which has performed very well. The Fiesta’s place at the Cologne factory will be taken by the Ford Explorer, which will be built in the same place the Fiesta occupied until now.

The last two units of the Ford Fiesta are destined for the brand itself. One of them will become part of the heritage of the European headquarters of Ford, at the Cologne plant itself. The other will also join the heritage of Ford, but in the United Kingdom. With these last two units, an entire era for the brand comes to an end, as it now faces the electrification of its models.
