The Ford Mondeo is evolving and will become an SUV coupé called Evos
The future Ford Evos will be an SUV coupé with clean, elegant lines that will take the place of the legendary Ford Mondeo. It could reach the market in spring 2022.

The Ford Mondeo as we know it today is going to disappear. The legendary saloon from the oval-badged brand is going to evolve and become an SUV coupé that will be called Ford Evos. Both the saloon and estate bodies will be replaced by a single chassis model. The future Ford Evos will be unveiled next year, in 2022, and will have a roofline inspired by a coupé, a higher chassis and very slim light units. As some images have already shown, the interior is dominated by a screen similar to the one fitted in the Mercedes-Benz A-Class.

This revolutionary interior aims to replace the now-classic combination of instrument cluster and information and entertainment screen. Everything points to the new Ford Evos being built on the C2 modular platform, the same one used by the new Ford Kuga and the Ford Focus. It is important to highlight that the new Evos will offer a wide range of engines, among which the electrified ones stand out. However, drivers will also be able to choose three- and four-cylinder diesel and petrol engines with all-wheel drive as an option.

Ford Evos, the SUV coupé that will beat the mid-size saloon from the oval-badged brand
The Ford Mondeo, the model the new Ford Evos will possibly replace, is a car that has been causing the brand headaches for some time, as the saloon segment has seen its sales shrink in the face of the appeal of SUVs. The current generation of the Ford Mondeo reached the market in 2014 but underwent a major restyling in 2019. What will ultimately happen to the Ford saloon?

We don’t know whether the Ford Mondeo will ultimately disappear from the market, but what we do know is that Ford has been working for some years on a very special vehicle. The Intellectual Property Office of London has registered the new trade name of the brand’s future model, Ford Evos. The name may sound familiar, as the American manufacturer presented a concept called Evos at the Frankfurt Motor Show in 2011. At that time, the new SUV featured a plug-in hybrid powertrain with a range of up to 800 kilometres.
The future Ford Evos that could be presented in 2022 is a car with a lifestyle leitmotif oriented towards active families who enjoy adventure. It will be a world car, meaning it will be sold in the United States, Europe and China, just like the Ford Edge, the Ford Kuga, the Ford Fusion or the Ford Mondeo itself. Everything points to us having more information about the new SUV from Ford during this year, 2021, as some prototypes have already been spotted on the road. The design will be much younger and will feature sporty touches. This will be reflected at the front, where the grille will have an inverted trapezoid shape with very softened edges. The grille will feature an internal lattice with large black gloss openings. Its light units will be very slim, with an LED strip along the upper edge and a chrome strip that acts as a link.

The brand’s designers have proposed a silhouette with a curved roofline that falls from the rear pillar and gains strength at the rear upright. The lines will be very clean and elegant, and the door handles will be integrated into the panels, as on the Range Rover Velar. The bonnet and wings could be inspired by the Mustang Mach-E. The brake calipers will be painted red and will be fitted with 20-inch alloy wheels.
