The Ford Mustang GTD 2025 will bring the excitement of Le Mans to the roads

Ford has created a version of the Ford Mustang GT3 that will take part in the 24 Hours of Le Mans and can also be driven on the road, with 800 CV of power.

Next year, 2024, Ford wants to take part in the legendary 24 Hours of Le Mans, and it will do so with a Ford Mustang GT3. But the drivers of the brand with the oval will not be the only ones who can get behind the wheel of this spectacular car. Several engineers from the brand set out to create a Mustang that could be a worthy rival to a supercar, and the result has been the Ford Mustang GTD, a road version of the Mustang GT3 that will go on sale in 2025.

We have no doubt: this variant of the Mustang has been unveiled as the most radical one seen so far. And that includes the Mustang Dark Horse, which already topped the model range. This coupé has almost entirely replicated the look of the competition model, although with elements that make it affordable to be driven on the road.

To recap: the bodywork offers 10 centimetres more width than the Mustang GT; it is made of carbon fibre and the front features very radical air intakes. Not only that: the front splitter is prominently visible and the magnesium wheels offer greater lightness to improve its performance. The carbon-ceramic brakes help control the car’s power and the titanium exhaust helps make it a milestone for driving.

At the rear you can see the active spoiler, which allows the aerodynamic downforce to be adjusted as needed. To round off the mechanical offer, the semi-active suspensions allow the ride height to be varied and make it drop 40 mm to race around the circuit.

Engine

One of the most important assets of the Ford Mustang GTD is, of course, its engine. The V8 block offers power that is expected to reach 800 CV, so it will be able to be compared with several models of Ferrari, for example. The engine’s power will be transmitted to the rear axle thanks to an eight-speed automatic gearbox, via an ultralight carbon fibre driveshaft.

These features have encouraged Ford to put the Ford Mustang GTD to the test at the Nürburgring. The brand’s goal is to achieve a lap time below seven minutes. With this time, it would be the fastest Mustang in history and would place it alongside other high-performance cars.

It is not known how many units will be built, but they are expected to be very few. And if you are thinking of having one in your garage, you will need to have somewhat more than 300,000 euros to be able to choose one.
