Lamborghini doesn't hesitate and unveils its first electric supercar, the Lanzador

With two electric motors and a power output of more than 1,000 kW (1,360 CV), the Lamborghini Lanzador Concept previews a new high-performance Ultra GT that will reach the market in 2028, and will be the first fully electric “Lambo”.

It won’t reach the market until 2028, but at Lamborghini they didn’t want to wait any longer and, at the Monterey Car Week, they have presented the Lamborghini Lanzador Concept, a prototype that previews the future fully electric production model.

And although anything can happen between now and 2028, everything suggests that the future electric Gran Turismo from the Italian brand will keep many of the design features and technical characteristics previewed by the concept car. What remains to be seen is how the Lamborghini range will be configured by then, which currently includes the Urus, Huracan and Revuelto models.

Let’s remember that the Lanzador is the fourth Lamborghini prototype to preview future technologies, designs or production models for the brand, after the Terzo Millennio, the Asterion and the Estoque.

A high-performance Ultra GT designed for an active lifestyle

Placing the Lamborghini Lanzador in a specific category or segment is difficult. It is clearly a “supercar”, although the brand speaks of a new segment, that of the Ultra GTs. According to its creators, the inspiration for the design of its bodywork and interior comes from spaceships, although the result is not the most futuristic we have seen from Lamborghini. It is clear that we are looking at a car very close to series production.

The brand insists on highlighting some features taken from the Huracán Sterrato, as well as the Murciélago and Countach LPI 800-4, but it has not yet revealed characteristics such as dimensions, beyond the height, which is 1.5 metres. They also stress that its proportions are the result of conceiving a vehicle that offers customers of the brand a new experience in terms of interior space and liveability.

Hence solutions such as the 2+2 configuration, with a modular rear space designed to carry luggage, plus additional space under the front bonnet. Also striking is a driving position raised higher than is usual for a supercar, with a spectacular floating centre console dividing the two front seats, retractable screens and a large number of elements made from sustainable materials.

The first 100% electric “Lambo”: two motors and 1,360 CV

Given that this previews the first fully electric production model from Lamborghini, we expected to learn a bit more about the technology the brand is betting on. For now, however, the Lanzador must be considered an exercise in style that previews a future model that could accommodate any advance that electromobility may bring in the short term.

There is therefore no indication of the power the brand is considering for this model, nor of its performance. The only thing known is that it will have two motors, one on each axle, and a power output described as “more than a megawatt”. This means that the system power will be at least 1,000 kW, which translates to 1,360 CV. There is no need, therefore, to discuss performance: with this power and the thrust of the electric motors, it is guaranteed.

But Lamborghini is clear that, beyond power or performance, it wants to offer a car that can be enjoyed every day in any situation. In an electric car, this means offering a reasonable range, for which a new-generation high-performance battery will be used.

For now, these are the relevant details of the new Lanzador, which will also feature a torque vectoring system with active torque distribution on the rear axle, sophisticated active aerodynamics, an evolution of the LDVI dynamic driving control system and active suspension.
