The GAC Aion UT EV is already priced in China and has surprised everyone

This small compact electric car from China not only comes with fairly complete equipment, but also has a very modest price.

In November, the launch of the GAC Aion UT was announced, and everyone was waiting to see how a compact electric car with a very tight price would perform. In a market where small electric cars are increasingly present, another model of this type could fall behind those already well established. But this model arrives with a weapon that will make it indispensable: its price.

This model was expected to cost around 14,000 euros on the Chinese market at current exchange rates, but in the end it has surprised. The launch price is just over 9,000 euros, although there is a more complete version that reaches approximately 13,125 euros.

At this price, we might expect an electric car with poor equipment and a range that fails to meet expectations for normal use. Nothing could be further from the truth, since it is a model with a lot to offer, with fairly complete technological equipment and batteries that provide real functionality.

As for the battery, there are two packs available. The first has a capacity of 34.8 kWh, and the higher-capacity version reaches 44 kWh. The most basic model is capable of covering 330 kilometres on a single charge, while the higher-capacity version will reach 420 kilometres. Both, of course, under the Chinese CLTC homologation cycle.

The battery charges from 30 to 80% in just over 20 minutes using a DC fast-charging system. The motor that powers both versions delivers 134 CV, which is not bad at all.

On the outside, we find a minimalist design with a simple look. At the front, daytime running lights with LED technology have been fitted, reinforced by additional driving lights placed in the bumper. The entry version uses 16-inch wheels, while the top version has 17-inch wheels.

Looking at the technology equipment, an 8.8-inch instrument display has been installed, along with a 14.6-inch infotainment screen and a voice assistance system. It also features level 2 driver assistance systems and integrated Wi-Fi, with over-the-air software updates.

A small electric car that also has a modest price, so it will not disappoint buyers looking for a vehicle for everyday use, with all the technology they need. We do not yet know whether it will leave the Chinese market or reach Europe, but it would be a very good option for European drivers.
