Civic Honda Curiosities Family Range / versions
The Honda Civic Tourer Type R exists, although there is only one unit in the world

Honda launched the sporty version of its compact model, the Civic, branded as Type R.
This performance variant is only available with the five-door compact bodywork, although the racing team Synchro Motorsport has brought to life a very special version with estate bodywork.
In this ninth generation, the wait to meet the most sporty variant of the range, the Type R, has been longer than usual. Either way, the history of the Civic Type R has given us iconic models such as the legendary ej9 or the ultra-modern fn2, with the look of a genuine spaceship.
Type R versions have always been characterised by very aggressive driving dynamics combined with an engine in the purest Japanese style. However, this new generation has broken all the rules, resulting in the most extreme of all the Type R models we have known. We tried it at its international presentation, you can read about it here.
On this occasion we bring you, as a curiosity, a variant unique in the world, the result of blending a Civic Tourer and a Type R. The result is the first – and possibly last – Civic Tourer Type R in history, an estate with the manners of a hot hatch and a very attractive powertrain.

It would be a tough rival for the VW Golf R Variant or SEAT Leon ST Cupra 290
The story begins when Synchro Motorsport decided to create this variant, drawing on the work of a group of engineers. They decided to take a traditional Civic Tourer as the base, which they then stripped down until the bodywork was bare. From that point on, the work was reversed, since they had to fit all the components of a Type R Hatchback.
In this way, the creation features Civic Tourer bodywork with all the Type R’s aesthetic add-ons, to which must be added, of course, both the engine and the gearbox of the sporty model. Furthermore, both axles have also been transplanted from the Type R.
The result is spectacular, and it could easily pass for a production model. What’s more, this Civic Tourer Type R would be one of the ideal rivals to compare with, for example, the VW Golf R Variant or the new SEAT Leon ST Cupra 290. Unfortunately this creation will not go beyond that, a crazy creature that has seen the light of day thanks to a handful of engineers passionate about motoring… but how we love these crazy ideas!
