The Hummer EV SUV will arrive in 2024, do you want to see it already?

Hummer’s return as an electric pick-up surprised us a few months ago. Now, to round off that comeback, GMC has announced the launch of a new version of this model, but in SUV configuration. A body style aimed at those who want to enjoy this electric vehicle that uses all the features of the model with a powerful image as attractive as the original Hummer.

Basically, it is the same design as the open-bodied model, but with the rear section closed off. The roof, consequently, is longer and features a vertical rear tailgate to finish closing off the space. Aesthetically, a thicker C-pillar, large rear windows and the spare wheel on the rear tailgate are also noticeable.

Same technological equipment

The cabin has also kept all the features of the known model. That is not a bad thing, since it has quite an appealing layout that allows all the vehicle’s elements to be controlled efficiently. Among them, the 13.4-inch central multimedia screen stands out, floating above the centre console.

The instrumentation is displayed on another screen, this one 12.3 inches, located behind the steering wheel. Drivers will be able to enjoy the Super Cruiser driver-assistance system. This is an improved version that, among other things, allows automated lane changes.

As for the available versions, for now GMC has only referred to the one that will serve as the launch and presentation version, Edition 1, which will be five-seater. Certainly, the size of the Hummer allows for the inclusion of a third row of seats, although they have not revealed images of the interior, so we cannot be sure that this version exists, at least not from the outset.

Off-road capabilities

As we have said, it is an exact copy of the pick-up version, so it has been equipped with the same mechanisms for driving off the road. These include an adaptive suspension capable of raising the Hummer an additional 149 mm thanks to Extract Mode. This way it reaches a maximum ground clearance of 400 mm. The wading capacity is 813 mm, quite appealing if you are thinking about getting into the water.

The rear steering axle gives it greater versatility and allows it to enjoy the Crab Walk that so surprised in the previous version. The wheels are 35 inches, although they can reach 37 inches, and are fitted with off-road tyres Goodyear Wrangler All Terrain MT. For the most adventurous, the beadlock beadlock system can be installed, which allows tackling the most difficult terrain.

Drivetrain and batteries

The Hummer EV SUV will have two versions as far as power is concerned. It drops the top-of-the-range option that the pick-up has, with 1,014 CV. Instead, it keeps the 842 CV version and a lower one, which delivers 634 CV. It will be equipped with two or three motors, so all-wheel drive is the only one available in this SUV configuration.

The batteries will be available with 16 and 20 modules, although we do not know their capacity in kWh. In any case, GMC claims a range of 400 kilometres in EPA mode for the first and a little over 480 kilometres in the second case. If the Extreme Off-Road Package is fitted, the range can drop to 450 kilometres.

This model will be ready for 2023, although the entry-level version will take a little longer to arrive. The price range in the United States will be in line with the pick-up version, so we will not find many differences here either.
