The highly anticipated high-performance electric model from Hyundai is successfully completing its winter tests at the Arjeplog test grounds in Sweden

Following the latest video published by the brand itself last December, in which we could see the latest experimental vehicles of the N series, Hyundai is back in action, this time with a new video showing the highly anticipated IONIQ 5 N sliding across Swedish ice while still wearing camouflage.

The brand’s first fully electric N model is currently at the Hyundai Mobis proving ground in Arjeplog, Sweden, where there is everything a car manufacturer needs to carry out thorough winter testing, such as icy surfaces with low grip and temperatures as low as -30 °C.

A promising performance

Built on the Electric-Global Modular Platform (E-GMP), the IONIQ 5 N promises high performance in all driving conditions, thanks to the experience of its engineers in developing models such as the Hyundai i20 N WRC Rally 1, a rally machine that we can also see alongside the IONIQ 5 N in the aforementioned video published by the brand.

The IONIQ 5 N will be the first production Hyundai N vehicle with all-wheel drive and will also be equipped with the N Drift Optimizer system, which distributes torque between the front and rear axles, controls suspension stiffness and steering, and manages the electronic limited-slip differential, all to allow drivers of any level to slide like a true professional.

Highly advanced technology

The electric differential fitted to the IONIQ 5 N has been specifically designed for this model, improving manoeuvrability through corners and high-speed driving on track and in adverse conditions such as slippery ice or deep snow. The e-LSD works together with the N Torque Distribution system to deliver the maximum possible torque according to each situation.

Till Wartenberg, Vice President of N Brand Management & Motorsport sub-division at Hyundai Motor Company, stated: “We are proud to demonstrate that the IONIQ 5 N meets our exacting performance criteria perfectly, ensuring the success of the N Brand as our first production electric N model.”
