Jeep will unveil the next generation of the Grand Cherokee next year, with a view to launching it on the markets in 2017. This new generation could bring major changes both for the model and for the American brand, which belongs to Chrysler and is a possible beneficiary of the potential of other Detroit-based brands such as Dodge.

On one hand, Chrysler filed last July for a trademark application for the name Trackhawk, which could name the SRT versions of the Grand Cherokee and the Renegade. This does not mean it will officially replace the SRT name, but one factor suggesting it might is that Dodge has started using this name again, and Jeep is looking to distance itself by not using the same name.

According to official sources at Car & Driver, the Jeep Grand Cherokee Trackhawk 2017 will essentially be a renamed Grand Cherokee SRT. It is therefore expected to be equipped with the familiar 6.4-litre HEMI V8 block, which delivers 475 CV and 637 Nm of torque. This powertrain allows the powerful 4×4 from Jeep to go from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.8 seconds, before reaching a top speed of 257 km/h.

But this may not end there, as the Jeep could inherit the supercharged 6.2-litre V8 engine from the Hellcat. This powerplant is already well known in the muscle car world as the most powerful production engine, installed in the Dodge Charger and Challenger SRT Hellcat.

The powerful block produces 707 CV and 880 Nm of torque, allowing speeds slightly above 300 km/h. Apparently, the engineers at Jeep could be working to cope with the enormous power in the Grand Cherokee. As a result, they might be forced to limit torque delivery or remove the all-wheel-drive system altogether.
