That the new Mercedes-Benz S-Class is one of the most technologically advanced vehicles on the market is something nobody can deny.

A completely new product that, as the months go by, continues to surprise the public, something it also does to the brand itself, which has announced some improvements in the homologation figures of its S500 Plug-in Hybrid.

Within the range of the German flagship, we can find three hybrid variants. The first is the S300 Bluetec Hybrid, the entry-level step among the powertrains that use electricity to move. It features a diesel engine and an electric motor.
The next variant uses petrol: the S400 Hybrid, while the most advanced -and expensive- version is the one we are focusing on in this article, the 500 Plug-in Hybrid.

Focusing on this last powertrain, it was initially announced that it would be able to travel 30 km in electric mode, offering average consumption of 3.1 litres per 100 km and accelerating from 0 to 100 km/h in 5.5 seconds. Undoubtedly, these are already brilliant figures for a super-luxury saloon weighing close to 2 tonnes.

However, from Mercedes they announce that these figures will be even better once the vehicle reaches the market, thanks to new adjustments and modifications made to the mechanics and electronics. The final figures point to an acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in 5.2 seconds, while the electric-mode range will increase to 33 km.

Finally, average consumption drops below 3 litres (2.8 l/100 km), making it the first luxury saloon to go below the 3-litre barrier. Let us recall that these figures correspond to a total output of 435 CV and a maximum torque of 650 Nm. Undoubtedly, this S500 Plug-in Hybrid has become a reference in its own right.
