The MG ZS EV updates its styling, technology and increases its range
With just one year on the market, the MG ZS EV has been a major success for the brand, and it now receives an updated look, technology and new batteries

The revival of MG after its acquisition by the Chinese conglomerate SAIC has undoubtedly gone very well, especially since it has expanded its reach to most European countries. In fact, the model we are about to discuss, the MG ZS EV, has been a major success for the brand after its first year on the market, climbing to the top of the sales charts for fully electric SUVs.
Now it is time to consolidate, and to do so, the brand will introduce new features to its electric SUV that, in theory, will carry it through to its next generation. These changes will affect both its styling and its technology, but perhaps most importantly are the improvements made to its electric powertrain, which will see its range increased.

Starting with the styling changes, they focus on a completely new front end. As you can see, the headlights now with LED technology feature a sharper, more streamlined design and, thanks to the new daytime running lights integrated in an “L” shape, a new light signature. In the middle of them sits the new front grille, now completely blanked-off, which includes the charging port on one side. These changes have also completely reworked the front bumper design, split in the centre at the lower section to house the sensors and radars used by the various safety and driver-assistance systems.

Looking inside, there are changes too, with a new design for the centre console that has affected the climate control buttons, and it also includes a new touchscreen for the infotainment system. The instrument cluster now displays all information digitally. Finally, the MG iSMART connectivity system is also included, a system already offered on other models such as the MG Marvel R Electric, which lets you control various functions remotely through the smartphone app.

But the real draw of the updated MG ZS EV undoubtedly lies in its electric powertrain. The motor remains the same, mounted on the front axle, with a power output of 100 kW, equivalent to 150 CV, together with 350 Nm of torque, which allows it to accelerate to 100 km/h in just 3.1 seconds. Now, however, MG will allow buyers to choose the ZS EV with two battery options: the standard one will be 50.3 kWh and provide a range of 320 km, while above it there will be the battery known as “Long Range”, with a capacity of 70 kWh, increasing the range up to 440 km according to the WLTP test cycle.
The new MG ZS EV will go on sale at the end of this month in the various markets. Although the brand has not yet confirmed the price in Spain, the company is considering starting prices of around 30,990 euros for versions with the standard battery, and from 34,990 euros for those equipped with the long-range battery.
