The arrival of the new Volkswagen Golf already promises future success for the German brand. You don’t need to be a fortune teller to see it: just knowing that they have already sold more than 33 million units worldwide in its 40 years of existence gives you an idea of what the Golf means for Volkswagen. That is why the new Golf takes things a step further, with a refreshed design and new technology.

Its design follows the continuity philosophy that the VAG Group applies to all its great successes, but within that continuity this update gives it a much more modern design that is at once elegant and sporty. These changes mainly affect the bumpers and the light clusters, and in my opinion the latter look much better now with those very sleek lines.

But if the exterior has changed, the interior was not going to be left behind either. It has also been renewed, with a more refined look, a characteristic that in my opinion is mainly due to the wide range of technological equipment that can be fitted. Within this equipment we find some interesting extras such as the Volkswagen Digital Cockpit or the Discover Pro radio-navigation system, which includes a 9.2-inch screen, as well as assistants that will improve our driving experience, such as city emergency braking assist and pedestrian detection.

Furthermore, the Volkswagen Golf has always been known for offering a wide variety of both diesel and petrol engines, and these have also been revised to be considerably more efficient than the current ones. Power outputs for the diesel engines range from 115 hp to 150 hp, while the petrol ones go from 110 hp at the entry point of the range up to the 245 hp of the GTI Performance.

Since its launch, engines have been gradually introduced to complete the range, and the one arriving now is the 1,500 cc TSI Evo engine. It is a four-cylinder turbo engine with active cylinder management and direct injection, delivering a power output of 150 hp and a torque of 250 Nm. With all this, it reaches a top speed of 216 km/h, while acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h takes 8.3 seconds, and it returns a combined consumption of 5 litres per 100 km. It can also be paired with the 6-speed manual gearbox or the 7-speed DSG automatic gearbox, in addition to the Start/Stop system and brake energy recovery.

Without a doubt, this engine can be a very interesting and well-balanced option, so you should know that the new Volkswagen Golf with this 1.5 TSI engine has a starting price of €27,990 with the Sport trim for the Spanish market.
