The current generations of the Citroën C4 and C4 X have their days numbered, as the French brand has confirmed during the Paris Motor Show, and both will undergo profound changes, especially at the front, as could be seen at the Citroën stand where they were presented. Let’s see what we can expect soon.

Citroën launched the C4 on the market in 2020, becoming one of the brand’s most important models in the European market; indeed, during the first half of 2024 it ranks as the second best-selling model in the C segment of compact saloons. The C4 X arrived later, specifically in 2024, and is strongest in the Middle East market and especially Turkey, although Citroën expects it to also gain momentum in Europe with this restyle.

Both models are similar apart from their silhouette: if you are looking for a coupé-style saloon with SUV traits, you should opt for the C4, while if you want a sportier silhouette along the lines of a fastback without losing the SUV traits, your option should be the C4 X. Beyond these differences, both share common features such as the front end, which is inspired by the Citroën OLI concept that was shown in 2022.

As with the latest Citroën models, both come with a new grille in which the two chevrons take on special importance, although this new design has not prevented the bonnet from keeping its original lines. On either side, framing it, are distinctive headlights with a characteristic light signature divided into three horizontal elements, a design that may look unusual but whose purpose is to preserve aerodynamics and a clean airflow. Lower down, a new bumper makes its appearance and at its base joins a trim piece acting as an underbody cover, a feature that brings it closer to SUVs.

On the sides, both models can be fitted with the new Amber alloy wheels in 18-inch size, which feature a diamond-cut and two-tone finish; we can also see that the side protections have been redesigned, achieving smoother lines. At the rear, the C4 comes with a new light cluster in keeping with the changes at the front, connected by a black band in Glossy Black finish, giving it greater visual appeal. It is also worth noting that for this new styling we will have two new colours, Manhattan Green and Mercury Grey.

Both the Citroën C4 and the C4 X keep their architecture, so their spacious interiors are retained, along with boot capacities of 380 litres and 510 litres respectively with the seats in place. What has changed is the technology, with a new high-definition 7-inch instrument cluster that, depending on the trim, can be linked to 3D navigation, complemented by a Head-Up Display. For the infotainment system with 3D navigation, a 10-inch HD screen is offered, fully customisable via widgets, in addition to voice recognition, smartphone connectivity and built-in ChatGPT.

Mechanically, both models will have a range covering the needs of any driver, all of them electrified, starting with the Hybrid 136 and Hybrid 100 hybrid powertrains, both comprising a 1.2-litre turbo petrol engine and a six-speed electrified ë-DCS6 dual-clutch gearbox, not forgetting the 48 V, 432 Wh lithium-ion battery. You can also opt for the fully electric ë-C4 and ë-C4 X with outputs of 110 kW (with a 50 kWh battery) and 115 kW (with a 54 kWh battery), offering ranges of between 355 km and 415 km for the ë-C4 and between 360 km and 425 km for the ë-C4 X.
