The new Honda Civic Type R, one of the most anticipated high-performance compact sports cars, now has official prices. It is scheduled to go on sale in Spain in this coming summer with a starting price of €34,500.

The GT variant will carry a surcharge of €2,500, bringing its final price to €37,000. This version features red accents on the front spoiler and rear diffuser. The equipment list is very complete, including front and rear parking sensors, automatic headlights with light sensor, rain-sensing windscreen wipers and electrically folding mirrors.

The Garmin satellite navigation system, with free map updates for five years, is integrated into the Honda Connect infotainment system, also available on the GT version. Other details such as the upgraded audio system, dual-zone automatic climate control and red door illumination are among the accessories that make the Civic Type R an even more elegant and sporty car.

Buyers can choose from five exterior body colours: Championship White, Crystal Black (pearl), Polished Metal (metallic), Brilliant Sporty Blue (metallic) and Milano Red (solid).

Cutting-edge safety systems such as driver assistance technology are also present on the Japanese sports car. The forward collision warning, lane departure warning, traffic sign recognition system, automatic high beam system, blind spot warning and rear cross traffic alert are part of the standard safety equipment, with additional features added on the GT variant.

The exterior aerodynamics have also been extensively studied to ensure good handling and stability at high speeds. The imposing rear wing, the wide front splitter, among other exterior addenda, make the Civic Type R look like a genuine race car for the road.

Under the bonnet sits the new 2.0-litre VTEC turbo direct-injection engine producing 310 CV. It accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 5.7 seconds and reaches a top speed of 270 km/h, according to internal Honda figures. To stop so much power, the Type R comes equipped with a high-performance Brembo brake package housed behind the 19-inch wheels.

The new four-point adaptive damping system improves handling and power delivery to the road, while the front suspension with double-axis bar and the rear H-torsion bar suspension further enhance stability. The electrically assisted dual-pinion steering provides a quick yet linear response and great sensitivity. The introduction of the “+R” button sharpens the response of several chassis and transmission systems for an even more sporty drive.

On the legendary Nürburgring (Nordschleife) circuit in Germany, a development model of the Civic Type R managed a lap time of 7 minutes and 50.63 seconds. Honda intends to return with the production model next summer in an attempt to set a new lap record.
