The new Tesla Roadster will be a rocket! It will feature 10 thrusters to go even faster

The Tesla Roadster will be even faster than announced (1.9 seconds from 0 to 100 km/h) thanks to SpaceX’s aerospace technology, Elon Musk claims in a tweet.

The second generation of the Tesla Roadster promises to be the ultimate electric hypercar, even more so after the latest tweet published by Elon Musk (founder of Tesla), in which he claims that the new Roadster will offer an optional package called “SpaceX option package” that will further improve the car’s performance thanks to a turbine system based on SpaceX’s space rocket technology.

10 thrusters to improve its acceleration, braking and cornering

Musk claims that, with the aforementioned “SpaceX option package”, the new Tesla Roadster will include approximately 10 small thrusters placed along the bodywork. The Tesla founder also states that the hypercar “will dramatically improve its acceleration (currently set at 1.9 seconds from 0 to 100 km/h), top speed (over 400 km/h), braking and cornering capability” with this technology.

How do these thrusters work?

Although Elon Musk has not given many details about how the thrusters work, we know they will be powered by compressed atmospheric air. We understand that those thrusters whose airflow is directed towards the rear will serve to improve acceleration, while those located at the front will act as a high-pressure atmospheric brake.

Background on cars with turbines

It should be remembered that the Tesla Roadster would not be the first car to use a turbine system. At the 2010 Paris Motor Show, the Jaguar C-X75 was unveiled, a prototype that incorporated several gas microturbines that served to recharge the batteries powering its four electric motors.

Better performance than a Bugatti Chiron at a considerably lower price

We recall that the new Tesla Roadster will have a price of 200,000 dollars (172,000 €) in its base version, a cost that could multiply with the inclusion of the “SpaceX option package”. In any case, its price would still be well below that of the most performance-oriented hypercar on the market, the Bugatti Chiron (2.4 million euros), whose 1,500 CV of power does not allow it to dethrone the future Tesla electric car. These are the technical specifications we know of the new Tesla Roadster:
