The Polestar 1 is contained and announces restrictions on its annual production

The brand spun off from Volvo will have four hybrid and electric models and will keep the production of its first model at 500 units per year

When it was announced that Polestar, the high-performance division of Volvo was spinning off from its parent company and becoming a brand in its own right, we all rejoiced. It meant we would have the chance to see quite spectacular models more regularly, thanks to the production of the announced models. The main model that is going to arrive with this new brand is the Polestar 1, a hybrid vehicle that wants to stand up against Tesla.

It arrives at a time when all manufacturers are focusing on this type of vehicle, but the arrival of this coupé presents some problems that have led the company to rethink its launch strategy. The complexity of the model’s design, which combines the reduced-version steel platform also used by the Volvo S90 with a carbon fibre body, makes it costly, and not only in money but also in time.

The hybrid propulsion system will provide a power of 600 CV and 1,000 Nm and will allow this model to travel about 150 kilometres in purely electric mode, making it the one with the longest range in the hybrid lineup. This does not help improve the manufacturing systems of the Polestar 1, so the company has decided to reduce the number of units produced to only 500 cars a year.

With this measure it will be able to ensure on-time delivery of models and avoid unnecessary delays. The brand’s prestige will be reinforced in this way, as customers receive their vehicles on schedule. With the Polestar 1 established in the market, the launch of the other models planned by the brand will follow, such as the Polestar 2 and the Polestar 3, which will seek to position themselves against those of Tesla, among others, since they will be 100% electric models.

In addition, Polestar has announced that, alongside these already known models, one should keep in mind a future Polestar 4, which is supposed to be the convertible version of the Polestar 1, so before 2022 we will have four high-end models from the brand.
