The Porsche 911 GT3 RS and its fastest lap of the Nürburgring (with video)
With a time of 6:56.4, the new Porsche 911 GT3 RS becomes the third production model from Porsche capable of breaking the 7-minute barrier around the Nürburgring circuit. This is how this record was achieved.
We had not the slightest doubt: the new Porsche 911 GT3 RS was going to be much faster than its predecessor at Nürburgring. Now we know just how much faster. The Porsche sports car has cut the time of the previous 911 GT3 RS by no less than 24 seconds, setting a time of 6:56.4 on the “Green Hell”.

This time means the new Porsche 911 GT3 RS becomes the third production model from Porsche capable of breaking the 7-minute barrier on the 20.6-kilometre track. The other two are the Porsche 918 Spyder, with 6:57, and the Porsche 911 GT2 RS, with a time of 6:47.3. The GT3 RS has therefore finished less than 10 seconds behind the most powerful of the nine-eleven: let us remember that this true “beast” sends the 700 hp of its 3.8-litre twin-turbo flat-six engine to the rear wheels, compared with the “only” 520 hp of the naturally aspirated engine of the Porsche 911 GT3 RS.
Before going on, the best thing is that you do not miss the full lap from the on-board camera.

On this occasion, the drivers at the wheel of the 911 GT3 RS were the official Porsche driver Kévin Estre and the brand’s development driver, Lars Kern. Each of them completed four laps looking for the fastest, and all of them were always below 7 minutes. The best was achieved by the young 29-year-old French driver, Estre, at 11:40 in the morning, with an asphalt temperature of 18 degrees. Estre highlighted how similar the feel of the road-going 911 GT3 RS is to the 911 GT3 R with which the French driver takes part in the ADAC GT Masters.

He also placed special emphasis on the importance of the new sporty road tyres approved for use on the track. The Porsche 911 GT3 RS is fitted with Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 R tyres, sized 265/35 ZR at the front and 325/30 ZR 231 at the rear axle.

The high-performance sports car, capable of reaching a top speed of 312 km/h and accelerating from a standstill to 100 km/h in 3.2 seconds, is on sale in Spain with a starting price of €224,171.
